Guest guest
and I spent 7 days on Catalina Island at Boy Scout camp. Nothing like camping with 500 boys and men!!! He had the time of his life. He had just a few little bumps in the road, the biggest being when we landed. He had not eaten for over 5 hours, I was afraid of sea sickness, and then we had to haul all our gear up to our camp site. It was hot and it was a bit more than he could take, so he had a little dysautonomia event. Enough to scare the doc there at the camp, who asked me why I had brought him. But by the end of the week the doc came up to and praised him for his perseverance and will to do what the other boys were doing. They were awesome there. They went out of their way to accommodate him so he could participate, including noonday rides to his merit badges when he was getting tired mid week. They even made sure he could go on war canoe. Oh my was that an experience! They sent the medical kit and Doc along just so they felt comfortable with him going. It is 2 miles out in open ocean around the point to crystal cove in canoes with 2 to 4 foot swells. Yep and because got to go so did MOM! This was one I was hoping to sit out! It was a bit of a thrill for both of us. He snorkeled, kyaked, swam in the ocean with the girabaldi's, did leather work, worked in the oceanography clinic with the sharks, oh yes we even swam with the horned sharks, a little closer than I ever want to be to a shark!. He had the time of his life! It was a bit stressful for mom at times when he didn't feel well, but I am sooo glad that I let him go! says Dr. Boles Rocks for talking mom into letting him go! All I can say is next time Dr. Boles gets to go!!!!!!LOL I can't explain the joy I got to see on my son's face! Thanks Rick for encouraging us to try! Mom and on the Boat The Miss Christy on our way over to Catalina Island Emerald Bay- Boy scout camp got to snorkel with the help of the camp staff. They were absolutely wonderful at meeting his needs so that he could do what ever he wanted! KP was of course expected by all! /thomas liked doing this because they got to eat first! LOL is in the yellow kayak. He even got to do that much to moms heart pounding the whole time. He even fell out, but didn't panic, " I did, " he was able to handle the cold water and was pulled back in. Something I thought I would never see my son do! Mom even kayaked! enjoying dinner on the beach at Docs cove waiting to go into his merit badge leather working. doing leather working. He made mom an awesome belt! He also made one for his troop leader and himself, plus a knife case for Daddy! These were the camp Mommas from Troop 9. We all had a blast! I was in a splint because I fractured my arm 2 weeks prior to leaving, but I still was able to keep up with most of what he did. The canoeing hurt a bit but was fun! This 6:00 in the a.m. I am not joking! was the only one in his troop to get his sea lion swim rocker! This young man got in the water with every morning to insure he was safe and didn't freeze up. Mom did it one morning and said " NO WAY! " for the rest of the week! It was well worth the daily bags of M&M's payment to this young man! He would have done it anyway, but I wanted to thank him for making sure did all that he wanted to do! Mom and Sandy on the way back relieved ,tired and thrilled at the experience that just had!
