We do meds three to four times daily and spread out pills. We take B-50 complex, CoQ10, selenium, niacinimide, riboflavin, B-12, alpha lipoic acid, Carnitor, vitamin with iron. In addition my son takes neurontin (large doses), lamictal, flovent, prevacid, etc. Mom to the two best kids in the world! http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/thomasandkatie __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Adam, Dr. Cohen was NOT at the 2006 conference (as his baby was due). My girls both take a " full " cocktail. They often divide the pills/capsules into several rounds both morning and afternoon. lies.especially, is COQ10 and riboflavin responsive so every attmept ever made to reduce the cocktail has been disasterous. adamm4321 AdamM321@...> wrote: Hi, I was just reviewing some of the files on this group, and see one for a mito cocktail that was reported to be according to Dr Cohen and was from the June conference. I used to think that something I was taking was causing a reaction, but I am pretty sure that it is just the amount of supplements rather than a certain one. When I reduce the amount, I don't have problems. So how do I take all that I should? Anyone else have this problem? Oh, and plus, that is a LOT of pills to be popping, I have kids who I am always trying to encourage to take supplements and they are okay with a few, but when I start throwing a lot at them, they start getting a lot less interested in taking them. Anyone have an approach that helps them take all their supplements? Guest guest
Adam. I take the full cocktail but divide the total dose of eaach into thirds taking one third about every 8 hours. Without the cocktail I am a mess so it is important for me to get all of the recommended amounts. a (MELAS)
Guest guest
Hi Adam, Some of my mito doc's patients go to a pharmacy where they can take all your supplements together and put them either in capsule or liquid form. In other words, one bottle of liquid or one capsule would have all of your supplements mixed together in the doses that you take. (It might require taking more than one capsule to get all that you want but it would still be far fewer capsules altogether than you are probably taking). If I remember correctly (?) you live in Massachusetts? My doctor is at Mass General and she has a form for the cocktail to be put in liquid or capsules. Your doc might have that, too. I don't know if all pharmacies are equipped to do this but I think the Acton Pharmacy in Acton, MA, is particularly familiar with mito and particularly helpful (they make compounds for many disorders). (I could be misremembering the exact pharmacy name but I think it's right. Acton Pharmacy's phone # is . Years ago, they were willing to mail prescriptions to people who didn't live near them. Don't know if that's still true. Good luck! Guest guest
Adam I would have to check the list, but I think I take most everything on it. It was from one of the earlier conferences - maybe 2001. I take a total of 52 pills per day, divided into four doses. Some are prescription meds, but I take 9 Carnitor, 7 magnesium and 16 CoQ, so that accounts for several. I have heart burn from the Carnitor, alpha lopiac acid and folic acid. I also have problems with acidic foods. I take some ginger after each dose and this helps a great deal. If I don't take it, it goes away after about a half hour. laurie > > > > > > > Hi, > > I was just reviewing some of the files on this group, and > see one for a mito cocktail that was reported to be according to Dr > Cohen and was from the June conference. Guest guest
In the book " Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever " renowned inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil, in discussing the protocol of supplemention he follows, states that he takes 250 pills a day, plus an entire day per week in which he receives several supplements by IV. Between this and the other things he does to maintain his health (diet, constant testing, record keeping, researching) it's amazing he has any time to invent or write books, let alone anything else! Guest guest
The doc who diagnosed my sister (died in 1996), myself and 13 yr old son differs on what to take from what Dr Cohen has on umdf site. Although I have not had a chance to talk to him about it (had an emergency call), the last time I went down to get letters for insurance I said that we should put a higher amount of Q10 in the letter than the one from 1999 because I gained 25 lbs and weighed 150 instead of 125. He said the adult dose for Q10 was 120 mg twice a day, Carnitor 1000 mg 3 times a day, Vitamin C 1000 mg 4 times a day, and 100 mg a day of Riboflavin. He also said my 13 yr old son should take the same dosages as he is 110 lbs. I and my son have mild symptoms except that he has very bad gi dismobility/ I take 5 30 mg Qgel a day and 1000 mg of the liquid generic carnitor in the morning and night. I also take 4000 of vitamin C but use chewables from Sam's club and spread them out the day. My son will not take the tablets or liquid carnitor, does not like the cherry taste. He also does not like to take a lot of pills. He takes 3 of the Carniqgel which each has 30 mg of Qgel and 250 mg of carnitine by sigma tau. It also has a small amount of vitamin C and quite a lot of vitamin E--like 75 units I think (bottle is in kitchen and too tired to go get it). Anyway, he also takes the chewable over the counter vitamins and this works for him. He does not have the severe constipation problem in over 3 years since starting the Carniqgel. He also likes it because he does not get these tiny little breakouts on his face. Now that he is 13 1/2 that may change but so far, so good. Janet Sample Is anyone taking the full mito cocktail? Hi, I was just reviewing some of the files on this group, and see one for a mito cocktail that was reported to be according to Dr Cohen and was from the June conference. Is that June 2006? I am taking some of these supplements. I have problems when I try to take too many supplements. My stomach just rebels at trying to process all of it.
