Guest guest
I know you can have both mini strokes and full blown strokes as well as many types of seizures with MELAS. I myself have only experienced 4 times in my life when I have passed out or where I am sitting and have a loss of time. From a MRI specttropsky in 1997 know I have " evidence of seizures " . In my 13 yr old son I have witnesses the mini stroke where he cannot remember names, how to do things, etc. He also has absence seizures where he sits and stares lasting for about a minute at a time. My mother used to have " drop " seizures where she would just fall. She was on epilepsy medication since she was 35. She died in 1988 at the age of 49 from a seizure which her left arm was shaking. My sister had the all body shaking seizure in 1994 before she went into the 4 day coma. This happened again in March 1996 and sent her into another 4 day coma. In late June 1996 she had 10 hrs of seizures and a 2 week coma that she did recover from. She was cutting strawberries and preparing supper for her bithday August 19th. No history of seizures or strokes before this that she knew of. Janet Sample Re: Newly diagnosed - what to > ask doctors & dementia > > > > P.S.
