Guest guest
There are two likely possibilities. 1) It is taking longer to heal. 2) You have a stress fracture that did not show up on the first x-ray (very typical with stress fractures). I had a fractrued foot a year ago that acted quite similar. The first x-ray was negative, it continued to swell/hurt. A second x-ray was done two weeks later that showed the break. However my the top of my foot continues to swell, regardless of what I do to lessen the swelling. Any suggestions. I will be trying to get in to see a new dr tomorrow. Guest guest
Ann, Since everything from digesting food to healing takes added energy and we are at an energy deficit already, taking longer to heal makes sense to me. Also, sometimes very deep bruising can be more painful and an actual break. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Guest guest
I had surgery in my right wrist/hand area in April there have been two X-rays of that area since April as I have a strange/undetermined problem with my right thumb. In neither of those X-rays did a break show up in my wristeven though I was having a problem with weakness/pain in the wrist area my BUT the last X-ray showed a break in my right wrist and that my surgery now appears not to be healing properly. The doctor put my wrist in an air splint instead of a cast due to my having sooo much swelling of my hands, legs and feet and I have been on Lasix for approx one year. I have not fallen or injured my wrist in any way but the X-ray showed a break. I go back next Monday so I guess I'll know then what is going on?? Guest guest
Ann I have asked that same question to ask a mito doc and Dr. Shoffner and have not been able to get an answer. If you get any information on injuries and mito can you please let me know I would really appreciate it. I live in Hawaii and there are no doctors who know a thing about mito. Guest guest
Laurine, Saw your post and am wondering where you live in Hawaii. The metabolics group at Stanford travel down to Honolulu at once a month to treat patients there. Dr Enns, who does research with mito patients, is among the group of doctors who rotate months to do this. If you would like his contact info, please let me know. He's great at returning e-mails.
