Guest guest
Okay, so in the interest of getting ahead of the game if I can, I'd like to know what you guys feed your kids, (babies actually) to help them gain weight. So far, the only thing I have been advised to do is to add an extra scoop of formula to his bottle, making it 24 calories per oz. We started this when he was seven months old, and so far it has resulted in exactly -one- pound of weight gain in seven months. He is extremely allergic to any dairy, so that kind of stuff is out. So, any ideas? I'm looking for a ped. endo right now, but until I find one who can see me, I'd like to -do- something if I can. Any other suggestions on help for him until I can get in somewhere? I have ST, OT, and PT evaluations for him tomorrow through the early intervention services here in Las Vegas, and he's already in with an audiologist for his deafness, (which is not related, my husband is also deaf and he inherited it from him) but that's all I've been able to accomplish so far. His ped. has calls in for referrals to a neurologist, urologist (for his hypospadius), and orthopedic surgeon (vertical talus), but I have read that all non emergency surgeries should be put off until the child has gained some weight. True? Thanks in advance for all of your help, you guys are truly amazing! Guest guest
-Hi Jen, My daughter Molie is on Neocate Jr. through a gtube 30kcal/oz. It is another elemental formula sounding very similar to elecare that was mentioned in the previous posts. She has been on it for almost two years now and seems to have no problems on it. Prior to that we tried building calories by enhancing other formula with polycose and mct oil. Honestly even at 30kcal/oz she does not gain alot of weight, but more maintains where she is at. Guest guest
--I put a caloric supplement called Duocal in all 's bottles and you can put it in their food too. We buy it at Eckerd and it has helped her gain a bit more(as long as she eats). It costs 30 dollars and has 42 extra calories per table spoon. Hope this helps Judi momto 9 months 12 lbs. - In RSS-Support , ljhess0701@a... wrote: > Okay, so in the interest of getting ahead of the game if I can, I'd like to > know what you guys feed your kids, (babies actually) to help them gain weight. > So far, the only thing I have been advised to do is to add an extra scoop of > formula to his bottle, making it 24 calories per oz. Guest guest
Hi Jen, I'm le and my Coby is 15 months old and weighs in at a whopping 16 lbs. He had been doing wonderful but between the ear infections and colds the last 6 wks we had a small set back. We are quickly getting back on the road to gaining weight though. I thought I would throw in my 2 cents here sense our boys seem to have some things in common. On feeding...Coby is now eating table food that I add duo cal to, Beech Nut's First Advantage baby food that is high in fat and cals, and for milk he drinks Peptamen Jr, which is a 30/cal oz formula. You can also use pediasure or whole milk with carnation instant breakfast to make his milk 30/cal per once. Coby is also on a medication called Periactin which increases his apatite. WOW what a difference it makes. The first month he was on it he gained 2 lbs!!!!! He will eat non stop now. I am always feeding him something or leaving snacks out that he can feed himself. Coby also had hypospadias...yes I said " HAD " !!! We just had his 2nd surgery for it and it is fixed now, although he may need one more surgery to finish it off. I know Coby is rare here to have this surgery this young but I trust in my urologist completely and both surgeries went great. He had one at 8 months and then this one just at 15 months old. If you have any questions or would just like to chat please e-mail me any time. greyeyedcutie @ yahoo.com take out the spaces. Hope this helps, le, mom to: ShyeLynn 9, Brock 7, and Coby (rss) & Carlee
Guest guest
We feed Alyssa Peptamen Jr. now via her G-Tube. It is 1cal/1ml or 30 cals/oz. Before she got the tube, and after the MAGIC convention, the nutritionist there said we should mix a toddler formula with whole milk. (she was over 1yr old). I believe we mixed the formula at half strength with the milk. In fact, I still give it to her. She was still on the bottle at the time and it was the most calories at one time I was ever able to get in her.
