Guest guest
Hi. is now 14 months old. His upper body seems to be growing fine but I noticed last week especially that his legs have stayed the same length for over 3 months. On top of this - possibly my imagination - but he looks quite cranial this morning - this was also observed by my husband. We know he is on the 95th percentile for his head size (it is large!)and maybe his head is just having another grow but his forehead does look like it is protruding slightly. His treatment started when he was 3 weeks old. We have had to have 3 sets of 6 weeks in plaster since this due to stiffness of his left foot. Trouble is it has already started to stiffen up just 4 weeks out of plaster. Not sure if this means a second tenotomy and/or tendon transfer surgery in the coming year. He left heel is already tightening again just 3-4 weeks post 3rd set of plasters to stretch this. He is however walking on his own now so we are keeping our fingers x'd that he will walk this out. I'd love to hear from anyone about the following PLEASE - 2nd tenotomies - Having transfer surgery as boots have failed - Short leg length/slow leg growth - especially this subject Thanks A worried mum
Guest guest
Growth concerns of course should be addressed by your doctor, however most babies do have short legs (compared to adults). When an adult bends over their head goes to about their knees or so, but on an infant, the head goes to the toes. Their arms too - at first their arms can't reach over their head, but in time, the arms reach way over the head. Is your son wearing the DBB? s. Information sought please Hi. is now 14 months old. Guest guest
I just want to second what ee said...babies don't grow " evenly " ...Short legs is not strange, it's normal. And as far as head size, if you're really worried just ask your doctor. Just wondering, how do you know his legs haven't grown in the last 3 months? Do you measure them? Or is it just his clothes still fit? I notice my kids don't seem to grow for a little while, then all the sudden they'll shoot up & all their clothes are instantly too small. But 3 months is nothing...it's not like you're saying his legs haven't grown for a year or something. They also slow down alot in the 2nd year growth-wise compared to the growing they did in the first year. They still grow alot in their 2nd year, but not as much or as quickly. , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > Growth concerns of course should be addressed by your doctor, however most babies do have short legs (compared to adults). Guest guest
- Please do not worry! Like the others said babies " parts " all grow at different speeds. They go through awkard stages just as a teenager does;) I think the majority of babies/toddlers have short legs for quite some time. Both my kids always wore smaller pants than shirts. My almost 3 year old wears a size 2 pant but a size 4 shirt. My almost 5 year old wears size 5 pants but a size 7 shirt. Many babies heads don't catch up to their bodies until after the age of 2. My girlfiend had babies (3 boys) with head sizes off the charts and their bodies were in the 25th percentile. There body didn't catch up to them until age 3. This is completely normal. My kids were opposite. They were in the 100% for their body and their heads were in the 40%. I think it is more heridary then anything else. Try not worry and enjoy your little one! > > Hi. is now 14 months old. Guest guest
This could be totally normal like the others have said, but if you're noticing a sudden change in his forehead shape I would watch it closely and talk to a Dr. if you really think it's protruding more. If it's looking like a ridge in the middle of his forehead, it could be the anterior suture closing up. Or, if it's a bulge, and the sides of his head are differently shaping too that's another suture which may be acting up. At his age, this may not be a problem at all, purely cosmetic but if it keeps up, I'd absolutely check it out. If you're worried, there's nothing better than an expert opinion to tell you you're nuts. I would talk to the ped about it at least. My children all have slightly early closing anterior sutures, they've all been through a period of time where the anterior suture could be seen and felt on their forehead. Like a klingon ridge I like to say. But since it never caused any brain compression it was not treated and my by the age of 4-5 it had evened out nicely. Darbi's ridge is very apparent right now but she's only 22mo. So it could be nothing but it can't hurt to ask about it. My sons were seen by a specialist who told me it wasn't an issue because of age. The big problem with craniosynostosis is when it happens when they're really little, the sutures close up and their brain still needs room to grow. Babies, by nature have very large heads as compared to their bodies, but it still needs a couple more years to grow before the skull can fuse. So by age 2 or so they're already starting to fuse together anyway. Try not to worry, I worried a lot and it was nothing. And hereditary apparently.
