That is a beautiful poem. Every time I read it I am so very grateful

was born autistic, I cannot imagine loosing her over night like this! I feel

for those of who had perfectly normal children who just seemed to fade away-

with us we had a totally autistic child whom we were thrilled to recover!

But until the day she began her recovery she never progressed so it all felt

like gains to us. Some days it is so easy to be grateful, I like those days.

> One Voice Will Be Heard

>

> When you were born my heart you stole

> With my every breath you filled my soul,

>

> From that day forward right from the start,

> The love you gave embraced my heart,

>

> As with all mothers, each day I grew

> My mind filled with thoughts of you,

>

> I'd daydream of the thing's we'd share

> Like late night bottles and teddy bears,

>

> Those first steps and skinned up knees

> Like bedtime stories and ABC's.

>

> I thought of things that you'd want to know

> Like why flowers smell, and why they grow,

>

> I thought of life's little lessons we could share,

> Like keeping your chin up, and playing fair.

>

> When I first saw your precious face;

> I prayed your life be touched with grace,

>

> Each Night I thanked the angels from above;

> And thanked god for your unending love,

>

> As I was ready to lay you down to sleep

> I said our prayers, and I kissed you cheek,

>

> I would count your fingers and toes;

> I memorized you eyes and your nose,

>

> I lingered at your nursery door,

> Awed each day how I'd love you more,

>

> Though your misty eyes, I dim the light

> Softly whispering, " I love you " each night,

>

> Then one day like a thief in the night

> You have stoled her soul and was out of sight,

>

> When she raised at dawn's early light,

> She couldn't talk, that day nothing was right,

>

> She crawled like a baby, even though she could walk,

> Then she would follow bricks, yet couldn't talk.

>

> At twenty- four months, man could you sing

> You could say every word, but they didn't mean a thing,

>

> This wasn't the same, not like before

> You use to say, " Mommy, I love you more. "

>

> You mimed the walls all through the night

> Sleeping four to six hours a night,

>

> Singing and rocking, as you wept,

> I cannot remember the last time you slept

>

> Where did you go, wherever it is I want to go

> Don't you know how much I miss you so,

>

> I miss the kisses, and big teddy bear hugs,

> The swimming pools, and even the bugs,

>

> At night when it is dark I cry for you,

> The things you will face, discrimination too,

>

> This thief's name is autism, and no one quite knows,

> How it takes you, how to treat it, and man it shows,

>

> No one has a cure, no medicine; no one has a clue,

> If we all would work together this is what it would do,

>

> The trumpets from the heavens began to roar,

> Soon after angels and the news began to soar,

>

> Though out the lands, by man, animals, yes even by bird,

> The message given was, " One Voice Will Be Heard! "

>

> The message One Voice, One Story, One Child at a Time

> Autism's Awakening the bells they did chime

>

> This news included; Parents, Teachers, Professionals and more;

> Working together hand in hand this news it did soar,

>

> From city to city and state to state, through out the lands,

> A new day is coming, get ready, and start up the bands,

>

> We are fighting the thief, yet the battle is not won

> Yet, think were we would be without the Power of One!

I never thought of it like that before! I've always been grateful that we at

least had her for a little bit and hope to have her again. But maybe it would

have been easier to fight this from the beginning instead of being so surprised

by it later. Dang it, I've been doing pretty well, but this poem made me just

cry and cry. Hugs, H mom to 3 yrs, PDD

Hey, we both have s!!!
