Guest guest
Marilouise, so good to hear from you again. Way to go ... Thank you for the prayers. Hang in there, I'm sure you're extremely busy with 3 kiddos and twins to boot! Do they have their own language? My mother told me, I'd crawl out of my crib and into my brothers and we'd lye there and just talk and laugh in this strange language but for some reason we seemed to understand what the other was saying! Don't be surprised if she becomes the boss. In kindergarten the teacher would tell what to do and he'd look at me to see if he should do it or not. I'd usually tell him the opposite of whatever the teacher did. Needless to say that was the last time we were in the same home room. How fun for them though, it's a special thing. I love being a twin. will have double the role models.... Anyway, I'm glad all is well. Okay so here's an update on -- We see Dr Herzenberg next Friday (2/11) for a check-up. I don't expect any surprises, her foot looks great to me. is finally walking!!! WOOHOOOO!! It's been in just the past 2 weeks that she has gone from a crawler to a walker. Now if I am holding her and I put her down, she takes off walkign instead of sitting and crawling. If she is not standing, she pulls herself up on anything in reach and just takes off. When she stops at another object or chooses to sit down, she'll look at you, clap for herself and say " Hooray! Hopefully I can keep up better now Also, I know there is kind of another board for this but I don't know how many members read it. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, Had you mentioned before that you are a twin? Must have slipped my mind. It's always neat to " meet " grownup twins and I hardly ever meet boy/girl. Owen and never had a stereotypical " twinspeak " but they kinda made up words for common place things (like calling cats " yaya " ) and they knew what each other meant. It took us idiot grwonups a while to catch on -- LOL! As for school, they are in separate classes but definitely has the more dominant personality. Although Owen is my onery, stubborn child to the max. He and I butt heads on EVERYTHING! Hopefully he won't be too much of a role model for or I am in BIG trouble Marilouise 9/9/03, LCF, DBB 14/7 Owen and 3/20/99 > > Hi all, > No I have not fallen off the face of the earth and I haven't > deserted the boards either My life has been crazy and my DH has > been using the computer a LOT at night so I only get a few minutes a > day to read email, take care of any business stuff and then it's > back off to paying attention to the kiddos! > I have skimmed the messages here and there and I notice I've missed > quite a lot. Guest guest
Well let's just hope when she begins to model her older brother and sister she spends more time with ! :-) Though my older brother and I are more alike than my twin and I, we're all very close. Whenever, we have the blues or work issues or just adult stuff to talk about we're always on the phone to one another. He's kinda like the sister I never had! For us, it's definitesly a special bond. Guest guest
Just today I told Hannah--nearly 4 going on 14--that she needed to go in the playroom and take a timeout and she said NO. So I said fine, I'll go in the playroom and take a timeout. But, of course, then she REALLY wanted to play with her dollhouse. Do the rest of you have what I refer to as " The Arsenic Hour " sometime around 4pm??? How did my mother do 6 children? Guest guest
Hi Naomi, I call in the witching hour but we certainly go through it here. My DH doesn't walk in the door until 5:00 usually and that's when we eat dinner so from 4-5 I am cooking dinner while playing referee to the older two and holding a screaming who yells " huggy " (hungry) as soon as she sees food no matter what she ate 5 minutes ago. And my DH wonders why we aren't smiley when he comes home???? I try my best but that hour can ruin a perfectly wonderful day otherwise. Guest guest
In our mother's day, she would say, " You kids get out of this house and leave me alone! " with out a bit of guilt. My dh and I talk about that - how we'd spend hours through the day with out sight of our mother's face, she'd literally kick us out of the house. Too bad we live in an age of physcho freaks so we can't kick our kids out. Sounds to me that about that time of day your kid is having her own little melt-down, over stimulation of the day catching up to her. Maybe try starting around 3 or 3:30 winding down in to quiet time, turn it in to a very predicible routine...then if she won't nap asleep, insist she spend at least half an hour quietly in her own room with the door shut while you both regroup. She may need help at first figuring out how to occupy herself quietly, but it's a good thing for them to learn. s. Re: Re: Trying to catch up! Let your dh come home and spend some *quality* time with the kids while you cook That's our system here, it works pretty good. s. Guest guest
I have a small cutting board type table (just an old kitchen table really) in the middle of my kitchen. Everett loves to sit there to *help* me cook. I can give him a bowel and spoon, a few cereal pieces, dog food pieces, something - he can stir up and stuff, he's generally happy while I cook sitting up on that table on the days dh doesn't get home early enough to watch him for me. Last night he watched me mix up salmon patties...stiring, shaking in salt and pepper, patting out patties...cooking them. Well at the dinner table he started re-telling the whole story with baby-sign-launguage! It was so funny but he was so serious as he copied all my movements (stirring, shaking, patting) and babbled his baby talk. When I repeated the story he told (just on a hunch) man he grinned ear to ear as if he were thrilled I " d understood his story. It was one of those really cute moments. s. Re: Trying to catch up! Guest guest
how do you make those salmon patties? I've got a freezer full of salmon I need to use up and likely more coming in the next couple of months (spring salmon season here - brrrr!!) Anyone passing through Portland in the spring or late summer, come by and dh will take you salmon fishing. Nothing like catching a 40 pound fish 20 minute from your home :~} Kori (who won't Springer fish... too cold!) Guest guest
We used to do the 6:00 dinner but my kids are habitual early risers so bedtime is no later than 7:30. Doesn't matter what time they go down, they are up right around 6am! If I push dinner to 6:00, then bed is literally as soon as they finish. It just doesn't work for us. Dinner is very social for us -- lots of chatting about the day and laid back atmosphere. I love that part!! Thanks for the suggestion. It may work as they get older. Let your dh come home and spend some *quality* time with the kids while you cook That's our system here, it works pretty good. > s. > > Hi Naomi, > I call in the witching hour but we certainly go through it here. Guest guest
We call it berserk hour, 5-6 p.m., everyone goes berserk (anyone ever read " hippos go berserk " ?, it's similar). I think it is just a stress hour, everyone is getting home from work and daycare, trying to get dinner on the table, etc. Anyone have any suggestions on how they do it to where it is *not* berserk hour? -- In nosurgery4clubfoot , Naomi wrote: > Just today I told Hannah--nearly 4 going on 14--that she needed to go in the playroom and take a timeout and she said NO. Guest guest
Spend a little time once you all get home to get home/be home - ease in, let everyone have a few minutes to talk and unwind before you plunge in to the nightly routine. s.
