I took 2 Flinstone vitamins a day with 3 taken every other day. That is what

I plan to do with my next post-op pregnancy as well.

I take a regular multi vitamin nad also a prenatal. My doc knows this and

never said anything about too much vitamin a. Some take 2 chewables along with a

prenatal. I wish you the best with your pregnancy and hope you get all the

info you need.

My surgeon told me to go off my regular B complex vitamin when I got

pregnant because it has too much Vitamin A in it. He said it was

mainly important during the second trimester when the baby's hearing

was developing. I see that other pregnant women are still taking

their multi vitamin in addition to their prenatal, but I'm not going

to take any chances, especially since my bloodwork came back fine.

So, all I'm taking is one prenatal vitamin and Chromagen, which is an

iron supplment with a few other vitamins, including B12.

Best wishes!

Here's what I take....2 children's chewables, and 2 carbonyl iron tablets,

50mg..which is 278% of the RDA. This is the perfect amount for me, as I've

had perfect iron levels in all of my blood work. I take Calcium citrate,

and the total comes to 120% of RDA....I am considering increasing that,

because I do worry about malabsorption and osteoporosis. It doesn't hurt to

take some extra calcium. I also take one B-12 tablet and some extra folic

acid.

My ob/gyn didn't want me to change to pre-natals. His reasoning was that

the vitamins I was taking seemed to work, and I seemed to have great blood

work results. He wanted me to increase folic acid....to take the maximum

folic acid. (you aren't supposed to have more than a gram a day), so I take

more than the RDA, but not more than a gram. The reason he wanted me to

take more, was just in case the malabsorption affected the folic acid

absorption. I think that unless a prenatal was specifically made for people

with malabsorption, that they ought to consider alternatives that they know

they can absorb. A chewable definitely increases how much you absorb, as

opposed to a hard tablet like most prenatals that may not even break down to

absorb at all, since it doesn't get to sit in stomach acid like it other

people. But, these are just my thoughts on it. I'm sticking with my

Flinstones!!!! :) Good luck in deciding for yourself. It's a tough

decision.
