They are wireless so you can put them up near the ceiling out of reach. You might want to check out one of their cam and software bundles. This one looks like it might be of use http://www.x10.com/products/x10_sw19a.htm It has motion detection and support for 4 cams. I'm not sure but you can probably set it up to warn you when tornado motion is detected...
