Guest guest
Hi Stella, I can relate to your dilemma, we had the same problem with Olivia. We first tried to wean her from the bottle at 2 yrs with horrible results, she lost over a pound in just under a week, so we put her back on it. We didn't know about RSS then, all we knew is that our daughter wouldn't gain or grow!! When we finally did take her off of the bottle just after her third birthday she didn't lose much weight but she HASN'T gained anything since, so for 1 year and 4 months she's weighed 18lbs. We knew that we were setting her up for teeth problems but the weight issue was more important to us. She will not drink her formula from a cup so we've had to stop using it (it smells HORRIBLE). In hind sight I would have kept her on the bottle even longer just to get the weight to keep increasing since we knew that she would have bad teeth anyway (from the brittle bone disease). In a couple months she goes in to get 8 silver crowns on her molars but I still think we made the best decision for our daughter to keep her on the bottle longer than the average. Just keep in tune to how your daughter responds and watch her weight, remember that you know her better than anyone!! Best of luck to you!!!
