Guest guest
she isn't walking yet... she's been in a cast on one leg or another for the last 5 months... so she hasn't had a chance to learn... she wants to so bad though... she would balance herself on the one leg and try to take a step but didn't have the balance due to the cast... so she will be late in that...which makes me sick... i think she would have been walking a long time ago if not for all this...she started cruising at 7 months... even with all the casts... oh well... hopefully she will be on the road here in the next few months... how is your daughter and her stage of treatment? mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF michelle andyandsamanthamom@...> wrote: I wish you and Grace the best and hope everything turns out ok. Guest guest
she had the heel cord release on her left foot in august and then on her right foot the end of december... her doctor kept hoping that the right foot would be ok... but i knew it was bad... she never took steps with her foot flat... always on her toes... and you couldn't get it to even flex flat... but while she was in the cast after the surgery on the right foot, her left foot was left untreated... and her dr didn't want to put her in any braces or anything after the surgeries... when i noticed her left foot already getting tight and he said not to worry about it... i had red flags and started looking else where... almost too late though... so dr dobbs is doing the release on both feet again this friday... and it still gets me choked up to think that soon she will be free of anything during the day and be able to run and play like any other little girl should... crying right now... i'm a pathetic wuss really... lol... but thank you for sharing samantha's troubles with me.. that has made me feel so much better... there is another little girl the same age and at almost the same stage that grace is... so first of all grace is not the only one... and i am not the only mother with these feelings... but that's all under the bridge... so thank you... and let me know how samantha is doing... i will let ya'll know monday how it all went!! mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF michelle andyandsamanthamom@...> wrote: she only has to wear them 23/7 for 6 weeks. so glad! samantha actually did pretty good with her first 2 sets of casts. the third one she started getting pretty uncomfortable. i know about the lack of sleep! she would not take naps and would wake up constantly at night. i felt so bad cause i knew she was uncomfortable. but the good thing is when she went into her mitchell shoes she did great! and i say this because when she was in the markell shoes it was a nightmare! she never wore those shoes for 23 hours! i felt so bad because when i told dr.p this he said she was miserable because her feet were not corrected and then she had this shoes on that were not helping. dont worry the 3 weeks will go by quickly, before you know it she will be out of them. i know it doesnt feel like it right now but it will. i felt like i was waiting an eternity to get those casts off but i was so excited to finally see her feet the way they were supposed to be! her feet are so flexible now.did she have the heel cord released? dr.p thought she would need it again but he did such a good job casting her that she did not need it. im glad to hear she is on her way to perfect little feet also. and I send you two a big hug! Hang in there! and BL CF 12/16/03 s 23/7 lisa caroland __________________________________________________
Guest guest
thank you... don't tell her pediatritian that she is a tummy sleeper.... i would get my hand slapped... i never lied to them... i just didn't comment when they made comments about making sure baby sleeps on their back... i just always brought up another question at that point... my sister slept her baby on her back and always had to get the 3rd degree and the hand slap from the doctor... i learned from her mistake!!! lol... i will be glad when she is in the brace and can sleep better... although it did look funny when she was little and would sleep on her side and would balance the braces so that they sat straight up and down... how she balanced them and stayed asleep i'll never know... lol... i am prepared for 3 full months of 23/7 but will be thrilled if it comes down sooner... i keep telling family an friends 3 months so to keep it real for me... is kelsey in the DBB or another tpye of brace? mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Jenni Cypher jcypher@...> wrote: , I can sympathize with you. Kelsey was 10 months old when she started the Ponseti method and she turned 1 with her 3 week cast on after the tenotomy. She was pretty used to the casts and actually did not fight them too much but she too was ready to walk and even took a few steps wearing her cast. She was able to cruise the furniture and everything with it on. I know that several people on here were given reduced time in the FAB because of their child's age and walking status but I wanted to let you know that Kelsey was still made to wear it for the full 3 months 23/7. Both Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Von Stein, our Doctor, told us the full 3 months whether she was walking or not. Kelsey does amazingly well in the brace after the first week when she adjusted to them. She is also a tummy sleeper that likes to pull her legs up underneath her and she can master this in our brace no problem. I am not sure about the Dobbs brace with the AFO's on it. I hope that the 2 months is all that is necessary but I just wanted to let you know that there is a possibility of it not being so. Kelsey will be almost 16 months old when hers comes off 23/7 (Feb 28, we are counting down) and would be walking now if it weren't for the shoes. Good luck with it all. Guest guest
Kelsey is in the DBB and is doing very well with it after the adjustment period was over. I am counting down though until we get those hours reduced. She is so ready to walk and I know that she will take off within days of getting that extended time off. I know I will cry like a baby when she does start walking after all that we have been through with her the last year.
