Hi Barbara and All,

My diagnois, well Danny's, took for ever. I dont know how many, blood, urine

tests, neoroligists, pscy elavs, and the genectics guy...whew.

MRI's and EEG's. Boy my husband and I were sure tired.

What the first tried to do, was 'rule out', other things, like Angel Man's

Syndrome. The first neoro guy to see Danny, said " Oh my, look....he walks on

his tip toes, oh my he walks on flat feet too ! " He was kind of a jerk, he

never said the " A " word but in a written report said almost Autistic like. I

am not sure what that means.

Everyone in pedi that deals with these little guys on the level that you will

be dealing with them on, is wonderful. The will anwser any question that they

can, the will get you ice water, anything you need. The really do care about

you and your child. The best thing is, most of them know the tricks to working

with these little angels.

I was very surprised to watch Danny's hearing test. He does not like anything

on his head. But somehow, the nice lady tech, did it. Just take along anything

that might entertain your little one, and something to munch on. It might not

even take 4 or 5 hours. Depends what they want to do. Be sure and tell them

about the diet, and the changes.

Good Luck

Hi everyone!

I am relatively new to this group and would like to be

prepared for my first appt. at Children's Hospital in

Pittsburgh, PA at the Pediatric Development Center.

This will be the first formal evaluation my son will

receive to confirm the school's diagnosis that he has

Asperger's.

We have been GFCF since St. 's Day, 2001 and he

has shown some improvement. We had been about 75% of

the way there prior to learning about this diet as we

just thought he had food allergies and he has been on

sublingual allergy extract treatment (a la Dr. Doris

Rapp) since November, 2000 and a rotation diet. I

didn't consider autistic spectrum at that time, but I

can tell you last year when we went off milk, we

experienced the dramatic improvement seen by those

just starting the diet. So I know I am on the right

track.

Getting back to my original question, we are told that

our appt. at Children's will last about 4-5 hours.

During that appt. I understand that they will screen

him for any and all possible physical problems, then

we will move on to autistic symptoms. I'm not sure

what to expect. Can anyone who has been through this

tell me about their experience? Since this is

basically traditional medicine, I fear that they will

diagnose and then prescribe the " drug of the month " ,

which I am totally against. He is doing extremely

well just on the diet and allergy extract treatment

and supplements. His attention span at school is of

greatest concern. He is in Early Intervention classes

3X/week for 3 hours during which he receives OT and

Speech.

I have lots more questions, but this will be enough

for now.

Thanks for all the great recipes and support.

Barbara (mother of , almost 5, suspected

Asperger's)
