Guest guest
Ok, I am going to give you my totally honest answer ... even if other people slam me. I literally had to force myself to eat during my pregnancy.... It was so hard. I had lots of complications because of WLS (I know no one wants to hear that, but I did) My baby consistently measured small and my OB was concerned that he was not getting enough nutrients. I gained about 20-25lbs with my pregnancy and I have not lost one pound of it and I have gained 5more! I am eating less then what I did pre-pregnancy, and exercising (I teach dance) and the weight WILL not come off. I am 3 1/2 years post op. I would trade nothing for the beautiful baby that i have now but please know that WLS can, does not always but CAN cause complications in pregnancy and that the weight does not just " fall off " or come off any easier because you had WLS. Honestly, I feel like it is harder for me to lose weight now then it was before WLS. Again, this is my own story and may be different from others but I think you should hear both sides, because I feel that in regard to WLS we often only hear the good stories. Guest guest
Jocelyn, No one should dare slam you because you speak from your own personal experience and if they do then they are *&^#%#@ stupid!!! In any case, I agree with you. I have 20-30# *hanging* around that I gained while taking fertility drugs. Was I obsessed through my pregnancy that I might gain alot and never loose it? Not at all. To me, having a happy, healthy preg/baby and giving my hubby a little tiny miracle that he has never been blessed with having mattered more to me than a few pregnancy pounds. I know the weight gain issue is real for most people, but after suffering secondary infertility and praying to the Lord month after month for a baby, it wasn't an issue for me. I can cut back on carbs, increase my protein intake and excercising and I can lose 10# in a week or two, but if I lapse (which I do), it comes back. I realize the WLS was/is a tool, not just an excuse to eat anything I wish. anyway.... off on a tangent....lol just wanted to let you know I agree with the weight gain issue! Guest guest
Jocelyn, What you answered IS definitely something that people need to hear. You may be in the minority HOWEVER the minority is a view that needs to be out there. Not everything is pleasant after WLS -- there are risks. Some are worst than others. How many calories a day are you eating? I wonder because maybe you are not eating enough and your body is in starvation mode? How big was your baby when he was born? My daughter weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces. Small but within normal ranges. Everyone is different though and just because your view is in the minority does not mean it is not welcome. Everyone should feel safe relaying their own experiences here -- be they positive or negative. mailto: dferguson@...
