Guest guest
I'm no Dr. but what I have understood from my geneticist is if they are sick, not eating - they ABSOLUTELY need to be admitted for an IV glucose drip. This is critical because of hypoglycemia. I would bring him in - incist on a blood sugar check and inform them of the critical nature of RSS - if hypoglycemia goes untreated risk of future learning disabilities and ADD increase - no time to fool around with this. Where do you live? good luck - talk to you soon - Jane.
Guest guest
Yes, the other email was correct (I think it was Kate's mom?) If your RSS/SGA child is not eating, and is spilling ketones already, then an IV with glucose drip is the only option. Don't let an ER put an IV in and 3 hours later say " he is now hydrated. " It has nothing to do with hydration. The RSS/SGA child has to be able to eat.... Please, everyone, make sure to have on your person and in your glove compartment the blue RSS brochure from MAGIC. It is handy to give to medical personnel. In addition, Dr. Harbison has written three documents -- one #H-43, is a letter pertaining to RSS/SGA infants/toddlers and describes the need for the IV -- gives her professional info, too, so it is good for giving to other doctors. The other, H-28, describes why these kids are at risk for ketones/hypgl. and why it is dangerous. Another mandatory document all parents should have in their files. The last, H-26, describes how cornstarch/polycose can help prevent hypoglycemia. > Hi, this is the first time that I have checked for ketones, and it said that > he has a small amount. Guest guest
, Datreon is doing better now, I was finally able to get him to eat with out having to get the IV.If this happens again and he refuses to eat, how long should he be on the IV, is it until he will eat again? Also, how do I get those articles that Dr. H has written? I have the blue pamphlet, but that is all. Thanks for your help! le-mom to Datreon 7.5 mos 10lb 13oz
