My husband and I did quite a bit of research into this before our son

was born, and as far as walkers and bouncers go, one of the key

safety issues is to make sure it doesn't move too much. You

shouldn't get walkers because the child can't see their feet, and

that actually hinders walking progress. There have also been

accidents when babies in the walkers are left unattended even for a

split second and they fall down stairs or run into walls.

I'm not sure if there are any developmental 'toys' that are

specifically good for clubfoot babies, but the research we did

applies to all babies and was just for general safety.

I am curious to see what other parents are using for their clubfoot

babies too! Our son is just about 5 months now, and just started the

FAB 2 1/2 weeks ago as well. We have a 'hop and pop' that he is just

a little too small for. We keep on trying it out though because he's

so close to being big enough for it, and when we help him out and

bounce him, he loves it! Here's a link to the product information:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_5/602-5590455-7129417?%

5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0000A9XYU

This type of system is supposed to be the safest, if this is the type

of thing you are looking for. The one problem is we have to use it

only during his time out of the FAB right now.

Ava has bilat atypical cf. Dr. Ponseti advised that the more she

bears weight the better it was for her. We found that the ultrasaucer

was perfect. It's from evenflo, we usually set it on a lower setting

than needed. It allowed her to stand up more than sit. HTH

Our son who is 9.5 mos now, loved his hop&pop (we also

started this when he was too small and would pop it

for him ) he was also a big fan of the johnny jumper,

however we noticed him favoring his non cf foot.(to

combat this we would prop him in different positions

to encourage the use of his cf foot) Now that he's

reaching the upper limits of the jumper he's learned

to use it as a swing, couple hard jumps in one

direction and then lift the feet, rinse repeat. The

latest toy he's been using is the itellitrainer by

fisher price. All of these toys he's enjoyed

tremendously. We've consulted with our doctor about

the use of these toys and none advised against it

really.

Hi Julz,

I'm sure you've received replies, I just have gotten behind on reading

posts... wanted to reply to your question before I forget!

My daughter LOVED her ny Jump up (thing that hangs from the door)!!!! I

don't think there's anything they can't do. I've heard of some kids who

hated it, though. Gotta try everything...

I have only read that it's good not to have them in any " device " (swing,

exersaucer, johnny jump up, walker, etc.) for more than 20 minutes at a time

for a lot of reasons... I thought the walkers were more of a danger because

they were on wheels and children may wheel themselves some place not safe,

ie stairs... didn't realize there's a problem with the way they're using the

walker itself...

Zoe loved her ride on toys, swings, toddler slide. I think the key is to

keep them active!!! My daughter sleeps better when she's had more physical

acitivity. We finally figured this out now that she's four!

Anyway, hope this helps... best, Joanne W. mom to Zoe, 3-25-01, right

clubfoot

Subject: What is suitable for toddlers, eg bouncers, walkers, ride ons?

Hi,

After finally getting the casts off and her Tenontomy done she has

settled into her boots brilliantly. No crying, sleeps

brilliantly and no sores/marks.

was brilliant sending them to me in the UK. Also thanks for

everyone advice regarding her foot and boots. Would never have found

out her foot was Atypical without your help. Many thanks.

Anyway Im more positive, (even though she has only been in the boots

2wks!!)

She is five months old and wondering what things I should avoid and

what are good for toddlers with Talipes.

I think I read walkers were bad, as babies tend to go on tippy toes

in them.

What about bouncers? The ones that hang from a door?

What about little sit and ride vehicles and little bikes when they

are bigger?

Any other thing which I can or cant use on her?

Also I know its along way off but is things like rollerblading and

ski-ing a no no?

What should I avoid?

What is good for my toddler to keep her foot in right correction.

Keeping her heel down etc.?

Any input appreciated as I havent got a clue.

Thanks your alway very helpful
