I know it must be an emotional and overwhelminging time for you and your wife, to have been thrown into this new world.. I hope you are encouraged by the stories you hear from the parents here. It really is a condition that can be treated well.. you have every reason to be optimistic. My daughter was born almost 5 years ago with unilateral left clubfoot. We were surprised at delivery (it was never picked up on ultrasound). It was crushing news at the time.. not knowing what it would mean for our child. If only I had known then what I know now.. and what I'd like to tell you.. is that, with good treatment, a child born with clubfoot will do very well. Seeing my daughter, you'd never have any idea anything had ever been wrong. She does ballet, jumps, runs, tiptoes, rides a bike.. does anything any kid her age can do, and her foot looks wonderful. You'd have a hard time telling the clubfoot out of the two. She is a completely normal little girl. I do attribute her success and good results completely to the Ponseti method, to which we switched after initial unsuccessful treatment. You are so fortunate that your child is being born at a time when more and more doctors finally are realizing the superiority of this method and are taking it up.. At the time my daughter was born, it was only just beginning to be recognized as valid in a widespread way, and it was still very hard to find doctors skilled in it, and often required travel to do so. Please don't let this news sap the joy out of your wife's pregnancy. with the research you are doing, and the preparation you'll have.. you'll do great. Look at the testimonials and family stories at both the Virtual Hospital site and at the Ponseti links site.. and I know you will be encouraged. Here is an extenstive collection of links, including other media articles, which might be of interest: http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links/ Here is a detailed booklet on the method: http://www.global-help.org/publications/cf-english.pdf And of course, here is Dr. Ponseti's main site for info: http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/index.html which includes testimonials and a downloadable video. Hang in there, and Claire born 6/29/00 treated by Dr. P beginning at 3 months
