Injection Sites for GH

This may be kind of a delicate question, but what body sites have you

found it's best to give the GH in? They tell us you're supposed to

rotate between sites. We just started and we've done both thighs.

The instructions we have give us the choice of thighs, abdomen and

buttocks. The nurse told us they typically don't do the abdomen in

children. She said behind the upper arm is another location we could

use. If we do the butt, I'm not quite sure about the logistics (have

her lay down on the bed?!).

This may be kind of a strange question, but we're still learning.

Please email me privately if you don't want to respond to the

listserve.

Thanks,

Sherri,

For 13, almost 14, years, we have only given Max his gh shots in his

thighs. Well, he does them himself now.... As long as you

alternate thighs and don't do the shots in the same spot, it's

okay. Also, don't fret if the site bleeds a bit after an injection

or if she has a black and blue mark. They are normal and safe.

Just don't inject in that same spot for a little while.

Hi Sherri,

So far we are sticking with the thighs. First of all, we do the

shots when is asleep. Second, he is on his pump overnight so

he is in diapers. Also, it's really the only area on him that we can

find some fat.

Good luck,

hi sherri-

we do the thighs and it is the upper part of the butt(near the love

handles, which our kids dont have but we do!! LOL!!) we dont do the

arms or belly yet, they said to wiat until he gets a little bigger

(we were told you should be able to pinch up and inch of skin) but

when it is time they say the belly actually isnt as bad as it sounds

(most diabetics like this site since there are less nerves there,

not close to the belly button more to the outside) hope this helps.

Thanks for all your responses. We're taking it one day at a time.

We were ready to try a different site today, but Abby didn't go for

it so we went back to the other thigh. Other than her being scared

right before the shot, it really doesn't seem to be bothering her too

much. And she really seems like she's been eating much better.
