Guest guest
Hi everyone--I've been lurking here for a few days and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Carley, 30 years old and I am pregnant with our second child. I just found out and am almost 5 weeks. Our daughter has just turned 2. I will be one year out from surgery this Wednesday, May 5th. I've lost 100 pounds and have 15 to go. My weightloss has slowed significantly in the last few months. Even though this baby was technically an " oops " we're thrilled and excited to be pregnant again. I feel pretty confident that I am at a point post-op where I can safely carry this baby to term. Our last pregnancy was one filled with lots of problems due to my obesity: preterm labor, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I ended up delivering at 38 weeks by c-section after it was determined that my daughter was too large to deliver vaginally. She ended up weighing 10 lbs., 5 oz. and was healthy as can be. My question is this: it just so happened that the day I found out I was pregnant by a positive HPT at home, I had an appointment with my OB for a colposcopy (where they look at your cervix under a microscope). I informed them that I thought I was pregnant and they ended up advising against the procedure until the second trimester. The doctor wouldn't see me--just had the nurse set me up for my first OB visit in June (I should be about 11 weeks then). My question is this: did your doctor want to see you sooner than the normal 10-12 weeks? I was given prenatal vitamins which I am taking every day along with my flintstones and calcium. I've also been taking extra care to ensure I'm getting in enough calories and protein. I don't think there really is a need to get in to see him sooner, since I'm doing all that I can to take care of myself. Still, since I see that many of posties are classified as high risk for many reasons, I'm thinking I might need to see him sooner? I have a feeling I'm going to be my OB's first bypass preggo (I could be wrong, though), and I expect that he'll have me followed by the perinatologists not just because of the bypass but because of the GD I had during the last pregnancy--they'll be watching me closely for signs, etc. One of the major reasons I had this surgery is so that I wouldn't have all of the issues I had during the last pregnancy. I know there are no guarantees that I won't have GD and HBP and all those things but I certainly hope all that I endured to regain my health will be evident during this pregnancy, and I'll be fortunate enough to end up in good shape myself and with a healthy baby. That's all that matters, right? Looking forward to getting to know you all! Guest guest
Hi Carley, Welcmoe to the group. My doc does not consider me high risk at all and actually told me at my 27th week visit that I am doing better than ever. My other pregnancies were not so good do to being so overweight and even though I am still overweight I feel better than even. I have had Gb for both my other pregnancies and no sign of it this time around. I am also 41 years old this time so I thought it was going to be much harder bu aside from being tired, I was before pregnancy, I am doing well. Just make sure you take all those vitamins, iron, calcium and b-12, I also take 800 mcg folic acid. Eat as well as possible and you should do very well. Alot of us do not get in to see the doc right away unless there are a problem. All theyr eally do anyway is get you set up for penatals and start blood work. Maybe you should call them and ask if they would like to do your blood work and you could get a lab slip and go get that done if you are worried about anything.
