Guest guest
Well, now that I know that I will for sure be induced next Wednesday, those ladies who have gone through induction before, what should I expect? My OB has me checking into the hospital Tuesday night to start the gels to ripen my cervix, my cervix is closed as of yesterday. I guess we are going to be doing this all night and then at 8am on Wednesday morning he wants to start the pitocin. How long after starting the pitocin will it take for contractions to start? Do they go gradually or is it more like going from zero to sixty in 6 seconds? I am planning on having an epadural so when do you think they will do that? Since they are starting this at 8 in the morning and baring any difficulties when do you think I will be done? The afternoon or the evening or longer, (OY! God forbid! LOL!) OK, does this sound like I'm getting a twinge of nervousness? Ugh! I still have a week to go, and can't start getting nervous now. I'm gonna go breathe now. Guest guest
With my boys iw as induced and it took about 20 hours, the labor was not so bad and i had an epidural. With Madison I had the gel stuff in my cervix on Monday and induced with pitocin on Tuesday, nothing really happened so they shut it off at 8 pm at night and restarted it at 8 am Tuesday morning only for the same crap to happen again and i was in pain all day long and this went on and off like that until thursday when the doc decided to let me go home until I could peel myself off the ceiling he said. I asked him if he was OUTTA HIS FRICKIN MIND, I was a week overdue, lived with 2 year old twins and lived in the mountain 45 minutes from town in a snowstorm, HE WAS NUTS AND I TOLD HIM SO. i was in no mood to mess around after this long so i called the docs who delivered the twins in Vermont and they said i could come over there, I got there early thursday evening. they I was having contractions on my own but not steady so they hooked the pitocin up and I had my littel monster girl, all 9 pounds 4 opunces of her, on Friday at 1:32 in the afternoon. I was exhausted but soooooo glad it was over. I was 400 plpus pounds when I gave birth and NOT in good shape. i found out my doc sent me home cause it was his weekend off and it was New Years Eve and he was going to vermont to party. NICE GUY HUH!!!! Everyone is different, every birth is different. My case with my girl is NOT common, the one with the boys is more common. i think you will do fine, exspecially getting the epidural, I always highly recommend it, LOL.... Guest guest
, With my DS I had the same regimen that your are going to have.. The gel actually started my contractions that night. They were very light contractions but contractions non the least. I would try and sleep as much as you can that night in the hospital before the pitossin is started.. I was already dialated to about a 2 the next morning and was placed on the drip.. My contractions started to become stronger and closer together about 15 mins after the pit was started.. They were not that painful UNITL around noon when my OB came in and broke my water!! OMGGGGGG then the pain began!! Oh the intensity!!! I breathed through them and was able to get an epideral at about 4cm (unfortunately the epi only lasted for about an hour) They did give me some other drugs through my iv that helped take the edge off and i could get some cat naps but i basically just practiced my " blowing " the pain away!! I had Ethan at about 7:30pm that night and ahhhh i was relieved!!! Having a child natural is ohhhhhh uhhhhhh well lets just say that I prefer drugs!! lol I wasnt given anything for the pushing part because it made me soo sleepy!! Bring on the Epi this time!! and GOD let it work for longer than an hour!! lol Huggers and congrats on havin your little one really soon!! I know everything will be fine just remember that the anesthesiologist is a miracle from God when your epideral is in and working!!
Guest guest
Hi , When I had my son 4 years ago I was given the gel to ripen my cervix. I was supposed to then go home a few hours after that and come back in at 7 am the next day. I was one of the small percentage that the gel made my contractions start....and when they started it was like being hit in the stomach with a baseball bat. They then put me on pitocin.....I never progressed past 3 centimeters. 10 hours natural childbirth, 18 hours with drugs and an epidural....A very lovely c-section and 4 days in a great hospital. This was all pre-wls if that makes a difference. So as to not scare you..I must say all the women in my family have had horrendous labors the first time around. Good luck and I will say a prayer that you get one of those labors like my best friend. She had gas pains for a 1/2 hour and then the thought she had to go poop and the baby started to come out and was out as the ambulance got in the driveway. Its been this way with all 5 of her kids each getting easier and easier. Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years! Happy Mommy to - 4 Years Old! New Baby Boy Swenson Due July 28, 2004! Guest guest
Chrystal, Wow! Your friend sounds like she is a regular birthing machine, LOL! The more that I think about a c-section the calmer I am about it, does this make any sense? I guess if I just accept the fact that it is a very real possibility, if it doesn't happen then I will be happily surprised. I talked to my husband last night to emphasize the fact to him that this is a real possibility for us so he doesn't freak out if it has to happen. He has about 25 vacation days saved up and we are planning on him taking 12 with his paternity leave starting this Monday, but its nice to know that if I do have a c-section and need him home longer than the time he has scheduled he can take more. My twin sis is coming out on the 20th and staying till May 4th, and my Mom is coming out the 23rd and staying till May 1st, so I should have plenty of help. Axelrod Re: Advice about what to expect? Guest guest
Thanks for the info . We are definitely hoping for a vaginal delivery but preparing for a c-section just in case. We have no idea how big Hannah is as every time I ask the u/s techs they say its too hard to measure now in addition to the other tests that have to be preformed. My husband wasn't a big baby, and I was only 6lbs, but I was a twin, so I'm not expecting her to be much larger than 7lbs, hopefully . Axelrod Re: Advice about what to expect? hello girl, with my first pregnancy, i had the gestational diabetes, due to my size they didny want to have to do c section but baby was being estimated very big so to reduce probability of the c, they induced me 1 day before my edd. i arrived at the hospital @ 6 am, they got they did one last u/s to estimate again babys size and position. for me, the labor pains were a gradual thing, not too strong, came and went so they needed to increase the meds, i had already had my membranes stripped atleast 2 times in hopes id go into labor naturally but nope i didnt and i had already lost my plug like 1 or two weeks previous, baby was stubborn i guess , anyhow, i was dialating slowly @ 3pm doc made the decision to break my water bag with this gigantic wooden crochet hook looking thing (scared the hell out of me!) dont let it scare ya, it looks scary but doesnt hurt she broke my water and i dialated from 2 and a half to 6 instantly and i was in instant intense labor and pain, i was< having the sensation to push the second the water bag was broke, i was given an epideral right away, i usually have a very high tolerance for pain but to be hit so suddenly, well.... i didnt know what hit me LOL!! the epideral brought relief fast and in fact it worked toooo good, i couldnt feel a thing in my opinion this may have slowwed the process down due to not knowing when the heck to push, they did end up turning it down so i could feel something. i ended up pushing for over 4 and a half hours. this was probably a combo of having had an epideral and the fact that the boy came out the size of a football player! LOL but in the end all was well and mama and baby were just fine! i wish you the best with everything and i cant wait to read your post about how everything went, hugs carrie
