Guest guest
Kaitlin began walking at 11 months. I think it just depends on the baby. Some babies are more adventurous than others, that's all. He will start to walk when he's ready, don't worry. Especially since he is already cruising...atleast you know he is able to bear weight on his feet. I know its hard to wait on such a big milestone, but it will come. Freeman
Guest guest
Christian is a little over 14 months now and he has been walking for a couple of weeks maybe even a month. My first son (non cf) walked later than Christian. He is going to take those first steps any day now! When did your kids walk? I am just curious... When did most of your kids start walking? is now 14 months and not yet walking on his own. He has been cruising along furniture now for 4 months and will walk holding on to my finger, or a walker... but if he lets go he will just sit right down. I am just wondering if club foot babies are late walkers or if I am just being paranoid. 2/9/04 DBB nights __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I think that all kids walk at their own pace...some are quicker than others. Owen started walking 2 days before his first birthday. My first walked at 11 months, my second walked at 8½ months and third walked at 12 months. Guest guest
Hi, My son started to walk at 14 months. He went through that supported walking for 2 months. One small trick and he started walking.I asked him to clap his hands. So, he removed what he was holding and used to clap. This went on for 3 days. One day, I was holding a mobile phone inmy hands and askedhim to clap and he was clapping, I showed him the mobile phone..then he left what he was holding and started walking...Then he got accustomed to that. I know the anxiety we have..may be try this idea.. Thanks. > > > > I am just curious... When did most of your kids start walking? is now 14 months and not yet walking on his own. Guest guest
My daughter Ava (non-CF) did not walk until she was 18 mos. She was very content crawling everywhere she wanted to go. She was way ahead of the game speech wise- but a little slow going physically. Now she is 3 1/2 and has caught up with the rest of her peers just fine. Everyone around me gave me a lot of grief because she wasn't walking yet, but I knew she just had her own agenda. I never really worried about it. She recently startd taking gynastics and loves every minute of it. I have a feeling that my 8 mos old daughter will be slow to walk too. She just will not put any weight on her legs to stand up. Ava was the same way. Only time will tell... Jen mom of: Ava 1/18/02 Addie 8/2/04 BCF(Dobbs Brace 23/7) > > > > >I am just curious... Guest guest
, In our experience, after treatment with the Ponseti method, our son (now 6 years old) walks as normally as our other 5 children. Also, with use of the Ponseti method, having had clubfoot does not seem to affect when the children begin walking. , our son with bilateral clubfoot, is the youngest of 6 children. My wife had kept a detailed baby firsts calendar of all 6 children and we used it to compare 's baby firsts to our prior 5 children. was first to roll over both directions, but we disqualified him because it was FAB/DBB assisted. In all other areas, he was never the earliest or latest of our other children in sitting up, crawling, going up steps, standing, walking etc. Our son began walking at 13 months. Our other 5 children began walking at different times between 11 and 16 months. A picture of standing at 14 months of age can be seen at http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/egbert.html As far as walking, all children begin walking a different times. There had been a discussion and poll taken at the Ponseti method parents support web site on when our children first walked and the poll results seemed within the range ages that would be expected. The poll results (with 50 responses) were as follows: These were the poll results as of the closing of the poll which was sometime after July 2002. Guest guest
, was indeed a " late " walker at 17 1/2 months. We were told that clubfoot babies don't necessarily walk later than other children but in our case, did. Her sister (non clubfoot) walked by herself much earlier, 12 months, so I do think was later because of her situation. However, she was still in the shoes quite a bit by the time she should have been starting to cruise and pull up so in our case, everything was just a little delayed having started the Ponseti method at 5 months instead of birth. I will tell you, once she " realized " she could walk, she went straight to running, it was amazing, she didn't miss a beat after that! Guest guest
> Livi is not yet walking - she's 13 months today. She has been cruising along furniture since 7 months. I think that because her feet weren't fully corrected it has slowed her down - she couldn't get her heels on the floor. She's in casts now from a 2nd tenotomy, and I have a feeling that shortly after they come off to uncover her perfect feet, she'll be walking in no time! Guest guest
My daughter is just shy of 16months and is still not walking. she does fine holding on to furniture or someones hand but i guess she is not ready to let go yet. i asked dr.ponseti about this and her ped and both agreed not to worry till 18months. she got a late start with the ponseti method (at 12months) and that delayed her in my opinion. i guess they will do it when they are good and ready, believe me i get impatient also my son not club foot walked at 10 months so i am more than ready for her to walk. Guest guest
, My Jakob (who coincidentally was born 2-9-98) didn't walk by himself until he was 19 months old. He could cruise, walk holding our finger, or with a push toy for many months before he took off. I think Jakob was around 16 months when my husband and I would sit on the floor and help him " walk " between us. When he took off truly walking, he let go of my finger walking in a store and was having a great time hiding in the racks of clothes. > > > > I am just curious... Guest guest
My son is 17 months and also doesn't walk yet. His ped. recommended physical therapy and we have been doing that for two weeks now. The P.T. says his calves are weak due to being in casts and the brace full time. He didn't start the Ponseti method until 10 months, so he was in the dbb full time until he was 15 months. You might want to try physical therapy. and 11/10/03 dbb 16/7 > > > > > > > > I am just curious... When did most of your kids start walking? > is now 14 months and not yet walking on his own. Guest guest
you know i had thought about P.T. but when i talked to dr. ponseti on the phone in february he said her feet looked good and not to worry. he did say that the casting and brace was the reason for her delayed walking but assured me she was fine and to give it until she is 18months. as for her ped he basically told me the same thing, although he did say to practice alot with her and try to walk her as much as possible. but the same thing he did not seem concerned either. im sure she is fine its just me that gets impatient at times. after her last set of casts were removed i did notice her legs pretty weak but now that she is out of her brace more and crawling, standing and cruising her leg seem a lot stronger. maybe she will surprise me soon! and BL CF 12/16/03 > > > > > > > > > > > > I am just curious... I didn't think she was a late walker because it was definitely in the range of normal. But if she hadn't been my first, I think I would have thought she was late! Her siblings both took off walking at 9 months. Personally, I think Rose was the normal one, and they walked too early. Zoe took her first step on her own at one year and one week old, but realldy didn't take off for a few more weeks. I really think each baby is so different, even in the same family. Guest guest
, started walking at 1 year and 4 months. He could stand by himself and walk holding onto things, and crawled almost faster than I could run (!), but he seemed to want to gain his confidence in balancing before he would 'let go'. We noticed that when he started walking it was like he had always walked, he progressed very quickly. I don't think that he walked later because of his clubfoot (and we were told the same by Dr Ponseti). He crawled from 8.5 months and seemed to be happy to stay like that until he was really comfortable with walking. We were told by the paediatrician that the longer he crawled the better for his muscle tone and coordination. He'll be walking before you know it and then you won't get a minute's rest!
