Marilouise,

I'm a teacher and sometimes I feel the same way you do. I can't imagine now how

I managed all of those years with kids 24/7. LOL But now I'm considering, and

have almost decided to take my son out of public school and homeschool him next

year. And for at least several years after that. However, I won't be doing

all of the curriculum. With the advent of technology and our state's acceptance

of charter schools, cyber schooling has grown here by leaps and bounds. My

niece currently takes classes this way and is doing very well. Since I've seen

it work and know that I can fill in the gaps with music lessons and such, it's

very doable. Especially since " Love and Logic " parenting has become a part of

our lives. Just thought you might like to have a viable alternative if you're

interested.

Re: Easy Cooking

I stay home too so the social thing isn't because we don't see each

other. They do go to kindergarten 1/2 day. I would love to

homeschool but seriously don't think I have the discipline or

patience to deal with my little smartaleck son all day long. I love

him to pieces, trust me but if I hear " I don't have to " or " Mommy

hates me " any more in 24 hiurs I am simply going to lose it.

Homeschool moms get the saint award in my book!

Anyway, that was OT. I am trying to find things for to do

while I cook. I don't mind her being in the kitchen with me but the

constant whining is what gets me flustered. She loves to color and

do stickers on paper but can't manage the stickers on her own yet

and still eats the crayons if I'm not watching. You won't believe

this but it was SOOOO much eaiser with the twins at this age. I

guess they helped entertain each other but dinnertime was never as

stressful. They would color, do playdough, etc and I just had to

monitor but not sit with them the ENTIRE time. 's just a

different little girl...as she should be :)

I don't want to step on any toes but I am going to add just a brief two cents

worth here: I think you could nip all this in the bud fairly easily in a

week's time or so just by laying down the law and regaining your authority and

respect. Believe it or not, it's possible the Kindergaten class is teaching and

encouraging this bad behavior. Not intentionally of course, but .....

No I haven't walked a mile in your shoes, so take it or leave it. I'll shut

up about that now. :)

As for home schooling, I of course encourage you to follow your dream there.

Begin by learning all you can about it, reading, researching, finding others in

your community to mentor you. Write me off-loop if you want to about that and

I'll happily talk more about it.

That sounds like a great program what state are you in? Here in

Oklahoma the law is very favorable to the home school right, but as far as the

public system helping homeschoolers there is zilch support. We have to fly

solo.

I'm in Ohio - and there used to be no support and the climate was not favorable

but now things are changing. The cyberschool option is open to the whole US but

they target advertising for states that have approved charter schools and

private education with public dollars over others.

Oh - did I mention that we don't have to pay? The public state dollars that

would go to the district will go to whatever 'cyberschool' we've chosen instead.

AND they supply him a computer and pay for the hook up and monthly fee. :)

Is there a web link to this cyber school you're talking about?

In Ohio it is called the Virtual Academy which is

www.ohva.org. You can google it as well and come up

with a few options. I looked into this for my

children because you do get the computer, materials

everything free but you have to follow the public

school calendar just as if they were in school. SO

you are expected to log on at a certain point in the

day, 5 days a week for the duration of the school

year. It was a too rigid of a program for me and you

are also not supposed to make any changes to their

curriculum or additions such as religion. If a family

wanted to work within that structure though, it is

definitely a great deal.

There are several. This is just one of them.

Also let me state that I can add whatever the heck I want to add to the

curriculum as it is in my house. They can provide the educational outline for

me but how I teach it and what I teach is up to me. But then I am a bit of a

rebel. LOL

Ah, no - I wouldn't go for that. It seems to defeat the purpose of hs'ing to

begin with.

ROFL! Gotta love someone who walks to his own drummer - where would we be if

Dr. Ponseti hadn't done that?

I'm going to start next year with my son who will be in 6th grade.
