Guest guest
Hello, I apologize if this gets posted twice, as I'm new to a bulletin board community and thought I had posted last night. We are expecting a baby in July and recently discovered a unilateral clubfoot during an ultrasound. I am glad to know that this is most likely correctable when following Dr. Ponseti's method and this is what we plan on pursuing. I know I am getting way ahead of myself, but have concerns about diapering a baby with such a high cast on and also wondering which baby gear is most compatible once the baby is wearing the bar shoes. Like a high chair or if we will be able to use a johnny jumper or bouncy seat. Can the bar be removed and reattached since it seems like it is quite time consuming to put on the shoes/bar once removed. Thanks for your tips and for all the information I have been soaking up from your site. --due in July
Guest guest
, Congrats on your pregnancy! My first (born with clubfoot) was born in July as well. Great month to have a baby (not a great month to be 9+ months pregnant though!) What area are you from, and which doctor are you considering for your child's treatment? Not to scare you, but rather educate you, be aware that many doctors " claim " to be using the Ponseti method, but often times tweak it in sometimes overt ways, and other times quite subtle ways, but through tweaking it they do not receive the same desired results, and often times surgery is needed. If you were to mention the name of the doc you plan to use, more than likely someone on the list could give you feedback on that particular doc. Diapering wasn't a big issue - actually, I don't remember having any problems with the cast, and diapering at all. I guess since I don't remember having any problems, it must not have been too hard to manage. I think you can use any high chair as long as the thing that is in the middle of it isn't completely attached to the top - what I mean is, you don't want a chair that you would have to separate the feet to get into it. I think you'd be safe with all newer high chair models. I never used a johnny jumper - but you could use it during the time off from the bar (after three months the bar time is reduced) - that would be a great activity for your little one to do when they are " bar free " . You won't have any issues with the bouncy seat - once my little guy grew longer, I do remember it sort of hanging over the edge, but I was still able to put him in it. We did have to return our swing, as it had the bar in the middle that required the separation of feet/legs to put him in it. We ended up purchasing one that had a really long seat to it that reclined, we found this best as the legs wouldn't dangle while swinging, but were kept snug in the seat - if you want the brand name, I can give it to you. Really, in my opinion - most baby items are easy to use even with the DBB (Dennis Browne Bar) - and if you have something that you use often that would require to you to remove the bar each time you use it - I would rethink using that item. It's not that taking the shoes off and on is really all that hard (at first it is, but you get very used to it) - but you really don't want to keep taking your child in and out of them, as they need to be in them for a certain amount of time. You've come to the right place to ask questions - the people here are awesome and a wealth of knowledge!!!!!!! Again, congrats on your pregnancy - is this your first?
