How do you flavor them? > Hi, I buy the ready made sweet potato chips by Terra Cotta. They are in health food stores and some supermarkets also. Terra Cotta has lots of different chips and snacks. Also find out if a HFS by you carries 'Just veggies " that come in a round plastic container. You can get mixed, but that has corn, but you can buy seperate ones too. They are dehydrated veggies that are eaten just like a snack food. Really gooood! I couldn't understand from your post as to whether you are GFCF or not totally, but please stick with this diet for your little one, cause as hard as it may seem at the moment, its WOW, so rewarding to see a child doing well. Guest guest
My son (3) is allergic to corn, as well as being on the GF/CF diet. Non potato snacks we use include: Brown Rice Snaps - sesame, vegtable, plain Hol-Grain Crackers - they are brown rice Rice Cakes - the unflavored versions (Mochi Rice, Brown Rice, Sesame) Hummas - with chick peas or various beans Mixed nuts w/rasins he likes peanuts and cashews best Assorted seeds - pumpkin, sesame Various nut butters Organic Fruit Leathers Rice Cereal - Twice Rice and Sweetened Rice Flakes Merigne (sp?) Cookies Dark Chocolate - specific brands, you must read the label carefully (only rarely as it makes him cranky) Can you eat sweet potatoes? Those chips are good, as are taro chips. I make homemade muffins, pan cakes, angle food cakes, almond cakes other sweet type things out of rice, tapioca and nut flours. Rice based egg role wrappers fried in what ever flavored oil we like at the moment - replaces potato chips. There are popsicles (Cascadian Farms-only one of the flavors and another brand I can't recall) that has only fruit or uses Guar Gum. Sharon's Sorbet (some flavors) can be eaten if your not on a surger free diet. Use Gaur Gum (available in some health food stores in bulk or in caplets - not available at our Whole Foods store though) in place of the gluten and the xanthum gum in recipies. I use 1 caplet per cup of flour. You will need to experiement with the quantity and your flour mixture to get a good texture. Double the eggs in baking recipies, separate the whites and whip them. Fold them in last. This provides air pockets and improves texture. You can also get lecithin instead, but the kind I found is soy, and my son reacts to this. I also use palm oil shortening for baking (I get this at Whole Foods, ours just started carrying it). I also make (for special occasions) suckers out of cane surger, water, and flavoring. We have a store here that sells a Turkey Stick that does not have dextrose or other corn products. (I live in land). Also, Energ-e did sell foods on-line sells brownies that are corn, gluten and dairy free. Can't vouch for the potato free though. Hope this helps.
