Friends,

You may have already heard that SAFE MINDS (Sensible Action for Ending

Mercury Induced Neurological Disorders) is organizing a candlelight vigil in

Centennial Park in Atlanta on Thursday evening, May 10, 2001. SAFE MINDS

members met with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) officials numerous times

during this last year and asked them to state a preference for vaccines that

do not contain thimerosal but the agency did not comply. The CDC's own

research study shows an association between levels of exposure to thimerosal

in vaccines and developmental irregularities. Since the CDC is based in

Atlanta and this year's East Coast DAN Conference is being held in the same

city,SAFE MINDS wants to take this opportunity to highlight the

irresponsible actions of this agency while paying tribute to our autistic

children.

Participants in the Candlelight Vigil will meet in the park at 9 PM and

long, white, half inch diameter candles with a funnel shaped holder will be

distributed. Please bring a card with your child's name and a photo of your

child if you would like your child's name to be read aloud during the

ceremony and the pictures will be displayed during the vigil. The following

morning the pictures will be taken to the CDC National Immunization Program

along with a request to stop distribution of mercury tainted vaccines. A

suggested donation of $2.00 per candle will be requested from participants.

The proceeds will benefit the SAFE MINDS organization.

Anyone who cannot travel to Atlanta but is still interested in participating

in the vigil may send a donation of $2 to SAFE MINDS and a votive style

candle will be lit and displayed for your child that evening. Send a check

for $2 payable to SAFE MINDS along with your child's name and a photo, if

desired, to:
