Hi ,

I don't know if you live in the lower, or upper Penninsula, but I am in

West-Central lower Penninsula of Michigan, north of Grand Rapids. My sister is

just going through the process now to determine if she has Mito for sure or not,

and she was seen in Ann Arbor. My Dr. was going to send me to Grand Rapids, but

ended up sending me to Ann Arbor, as well. It makes more sense to go to AA,

since they have a lot of our family history and so forth. I have an appointment

the first week of December to see the neurologists at the U of M. Personally,

I'd rather go to a teaching hospital such as Ann Arbor, where they have

up-to-date equipment, technology, and are up on the most current treatments for

so many illnesses. I don't even know what Dr.'s specialize in anything, this is

all really new to me, so I'm going through the process of sorting Dr.'s as well.

I'm sure there are other very good Dr.'s in Michigan, but I just don't have any

idea on where to find them.

Take care,

Cin

teenager with fatigur/insomnia

My 17 year old daughter has been complaining of difficulty sleeping, falling

asleep, stayung asleep, and fatigue. I took her to the family dr. will do blood

work, but question the posibility of this being mito. so if her blood work is

fine. where should i take her? we live in western Michigan. I don't want her to

be seen in my town, no mito docs here. Don't want her to be seen by adult

neurology as there seems to be more pediatric specialist from what i here. don't

knowhere to start. Any Drs you all can suggest? Thanks susan .o

You might want to ask the doctor about a sleep study before starting

on the mito road, unless there is a strong family history of mito.

I am also in Michigan ().

There aren't good mito docs in the midwest. You might

want to attack the problem from a subspecialist's

perspective. How far is MIlwaukee? There are great

sleep specialists there.

My son is 17 and has headache, fatigue, sleep issues.

The sleep lab at Children's of Wisconsin is wonderful.

Great director too.

You can't rule out mito from a few labs drawn in your

doctor's office. So, if your doc tells you that, well,

he's wrong.

Even mito patients should have sleep studies if they

have sleepissues. My daughter had central apnea that

showed up on studies until she was five. I have it

too. It was blamed on her prematurity. Son has

restless leg syndrome. Daughter has hypoventilation.

Definitely an important point - many of us have normal labs for " run

of the mill lab tests " . Has your daughter had lactate/pyruvate blood

tests? Those tests are often abnormal for people with mito (either

abnormal individually or an abnormal ratio), but are pretty difficult

to run so can't be done in most (if not all) doctors' offices.

Usually they are done at a major medical center, and even then I have

to call to check if they can do them.

Take care,

RH

Hi,

I have 2 kids my son is 20 and my daughter is 16 and they both have mito

my son is more severe he has severe cyclic vomiting syndrome and severe

dysautonomia/ POTS. My daughter has a moderate degree of dysautonomia and

migraine headaches and is lactaid intolerant. I have mito and have some
