Guest guest
Hello to Jodie, Jodi, and Chrissy. I actually asked about this at a Dr appt a while ago, because I noticed how strongly 's urine was smelling after all night in a diaper. The Ped said that it's because we don't give the kids enough " extra " water. Especially kids on tube feeds, or during the winter. Most peple are thirstier in the summer, and then think to bolus tube fed kids because of the heat. The air in the house is drier during the winter because of heating, fireplaces etc... and kids actually get dehydrated more easily. When I started bolusing a few extra cc's of water every couple of hours, the strong urine smell was greatly dissipated. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I am assuming that all of you with the strong urine smell have also checked the morning urine with ketosticks to ensure that the smell is not the spilling of ketones??? If not, then yes, Dr. H told us to give more water. We all tend to not want to give water since it has no calories ... HA!!!!
