Hi Judi,

My name is Pat, and I am G-ma to . has never shown any signs

of hunger. It wasn't very long after he came home from the NICU, that he

started to sleep through the night, and would go 12 hours without eating,

never crying or fussing.

As I remember it, at the convention Dr H said that our RSS children would

make the perfect " cave baby " because something in their biological make-up,

allows them to survive, and even thrive, while consuming less. This might be

caused by an insufficiency of some chemical in the brain, that stimulates

the hunger center. These problems are increased when a child suffers from

reflux, delayed gastric emptying, or other GI issues. These kids learn very

quickly to associate feeding with pain or discomfort, and develop an

aversion to eating. It was surprising to me, the young age, at which these

kids correlate the two.

Another problem that our RSS kids have, shows up in the small percentage of

RSS kids that DO eat. These kids don't have appetite problems, but seem to

need a much higher amount of calories for growth and weight gain, than most

kids do. I think Salem's daughter, , is one of these kids.

Be reassured that this has nothing to do with how " smart " your daughter is.

It is a biological problem. Try to imagine how you would feel if you had

just eaten a large meal, and someone started encouraging you to eat it all

again.

Hope this helps.

Singulair, GT)
