Guest guest
dear daiga, thanks for the concern. my boy was born on sept. 19,2004. he had received some treatment here but i guess he was not so lucky enough to fall on the right doctor. we also visited a consultant- he also a libyan national who studied in italy but his advise was surgery so we declined the option of the latter. by the way, we stop seeing the first doctor as his advise was to do casting under anesthesia- we were not told exactly as to why he is going to sedate the boy- we were only told that the procedure is painful. i would like to give you a background of us. we couples are both filipino nurses and we are working here in tripoli, libya. i had resigned from my work last year because i had applied in the u.s. and our immigrant petition has been approved. to make it short we could have been in the u.s. right now if not only with the retrogression policy the u.s.c.i.s had imposed. everything could have been fine for our boy. anyhow , i will try to push thru with going to the u.s. for the treatment- it would be a lifetime conscience if i could not give my boy a proper treatment. i really appreciate your support. i will try to email doctor ponseti and i'll also send some pics of my son so he could assess the case. till here and best regards manuel Daiga Grady daiga.grady@...> wrote: , Welcome to this group. How old is your child and what treatment has he/she received up until this point? I've checked the list of Ponseti qualified doctors and do not see any listed in the Philippines, however, there are a number of doctors throughout Asia who are much closer to you than the U.S.. http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians.h tml I would encourage you to write directly to Dr. Ponseti - he would know better than anyone if there are any qualified doctors closer to your area. His email is:ignacio-ponseti @ uiowa.edu (without the spaces) Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
daiga, hi and hello. i'm glad to have you always on my track giving guidance and relevant info's. i tried emailing doctor ponseti but there was a problem with the connection enabling me sending a blank mail. luckily, i got a respond today telling me to resend my mail coz it has nothing on it. by the way, today i'm so lucky to have a mail from a filipino who happen to have a son who also have clubfoot and she has referred me to the doctor who treated their son- the good thing is he was treated using the ponseti method. so i guess i had to drop the notion of going to the u.s. after all. but first i have to talk to this doctor to be sure. i will also continue on emailing dr. ponseti with the pictures so i could at least get his opinion. i'll keep you updated till here and best regards manuel Daiga Grady daiga.grady@...> wrote: , Your son is lucky to have such determined parents are you seem to be. Good for you! It doesn't sound as if there is much choice in way of treatment options there in Libya. Hopefully you are able to travel soon in order to receive proper treatment for your son. Sending pictures along to Dr. Ponseti is a good idea. The type of pictures he needs to see would be weight-bearing (your son would need to be held in a standing position bearing weight on his feet, if he is able) from the front, from the back and from the lateral (outter) sides. Also, a picture of the soles (bottoms) of his feet would be helpful for the assessment. From what I understand, Dr. Ponseti usually answers his email on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but he is sometimes backed up a bit so it may take a week before you see a reply. In any case, it will be well worth the wait! If you have any questions please ask. Good luck to you. Keep us posted. Guest guest
daiga, we are planning to go home right after our kids graduation from school that's probably by tyhe month of april. do you think by that time our child could still be treated? he would be nearly 7 mos. by that time. i will also ask dr. ponseti with regards to this filipino doctor and thanks for your usual support. my kind regards and happy valentines day manuel Daiga Grady daiga.grady@...> wrote: , it is true that there are many doctors out there who are using the Ponseti method but are not yet listed on Dr. Ponseti's website. It can be quite frustrating trying to locate them however without direct word-of-mouth referrals! I'm glad that you were able to get a lead. It may be a good idea to ask Dr. Ponseti when you email him if he has any knowledge of that particular doctor or if he perhaps knows of others in the Philippines who are practising his method. How soon do you think you will be able to travel back home in order to start treatment for your son?
