Please be sure and keep us posted. My three old son needs to be potty

trained. It's just the consistency is our biggest problem. Also, at times

he doesn't seem interested. Good Luck, CASSIE

> We just bought the video Once Upon a Potty

Hi, ! :)

I've been eyeing that video, wondering if it might be good for Brett,

and now I'm planning to buy it tomorrow! We have to have him potty

trained by September in order for him to stay in his typical

preschool class, so I'm looking for any and all ideas. He loves to

watch the Bear in the Big Blue House potty video, but I think the

attraction there is Bear more than the potty. Maybe something more

to the point will help...

Thanks for the tip!

I don't know if this would be of any help, but I'll share anyway. My ds is

somewhere on the spectrum but not sure where yet but is definitely at the

higher end. We finally got him potty trained last July (he was 3 1/2 years

old). We had been trying to get him to do it for quite awhile but he just

wouldn't, but he made comments that let us know that he could, he just

didn't want to. Soooo, I finally put him regular underwear and jeans and

told him he was a big boy and that he can't wear diapers during the day

anymore. He wet himself and thought that it was just horrible--wet jeans

are the key here. I helped him change into another pair of underwear and

jeans and told him to use the potty next time. He wet again and that time

he had to change himself. He only wet one more time and he has never wet

his pants again. The next day he had a BM in his pants once and that was

the end of that. I think the key was his sensory issues with the wet jeans.

Hope this helps.

Sue,

Both my older boys potty trained using the Once upon a potty video. One at

30 months and the other right at 3 but I had them watch the video long before

they were ready.

My son 3yo on Good Friday has watched the video several times too. I am in a

awkward place with him. He shows all interest and typical signs he is ready.

Pulls his pants up and down, imitates sitting on potty, even stands like his

big brother with diaper off over the toilet and loves to flush. But he is

starting his new preschool handicapped program on April 17th so I am

reluctant to remove his diaper and let him try. He also needs to see a

urologist at the end of the month to determine if he needs surgery. He has a

fat pad around the area that makes his penis disappear. Which may or may not

resolve itself. He is just turning 3 and is still young. I don't want to

push him especially with everything going on but do worry that I will squelch

his interest.

I found with my 2 other boys that I just had to let them go without the

diaper and have some accidents before they really got it. I did also buy the

book with the video along with another book. If your child likes looking at

the pictures in a book I would certainly suggest that you get the book as

well. Oh and btw I hate preschools that have a rule they have to be potty

trained. All children are individuals and simply may not be ready when they

are ready to go to preschool. I was able to find a great preschool for my

other 2 boys that never insisted on this. Also, I have heard of many a mom

that just put the pull up on their child and sent them off without the

preschool ever being the wiser.

Hi all...

I think we are nearing the potty thing. Gillian is 31 months and has been

pooping in the corner (in her diaper), embarassed when she poops, pulling

at her diaper when it's wet. My question is how verbal are your kids? What

signs do you use? Gillian has growing receptive language and is verbal in

that she has 150 words in her vocab, expressivly using 20 or so. We have a

PEC of potty and she loves helping me potty. What do you think, should we

give it a go?

Debbie,

Thanks for the tips! I have the " pull-up plan " as a backup, but for

social reasons, I really want him to be trained for real. About the

preschool: The school is GREAT, and Brett has been there since he

was 18 months old (before we realized he had any problems!) He has

been in class with the same group of kids the whole time, and I

really want to keep him with those kids for socialization. There is

another 3yo class that has 2 teachers and a bathroom off the

classroom that he could go in whether or not he is trained. However,

the class with his " friends " is smaller, has just one teacher, and

the bathroom is across the hall. So, if I want him in that

particular class, he has to be trained. I'm off to buy the video

(and book!)
