Guest guest
Obviously, I am not your doctor, but we called Dr. Ponseti to find out the exact protocol because our son seemed to be told to stay 23/7 longer than most, and we wondered if things had changed. He has not seen our son, but made it sound like this is what he tells everyone. Like I said, my husband questioned him because he seemed to MUCH more lenient with the time. He even told us it was ok to have our son out for 2 hours/ day, and he has been in the ddb for 2 weeks. We will still try to stick with 1 hour, but if it goes a little over, it is nice to know it is not the end of the world. I can't say what you should do, and if you are happy with your dr. maybe you could ask him or her what they think about what Dr. Ponseti said. We just switched drs. because our original dr. was only going to have us in the shoes for 1 year, 12 hours/ day. Our new dr. is not as familiar with us, so we thought maybe that is why she was cautious with the 4 months of 23/7. We also live 2 hours away, and thought this might be the reason. All I can tell you is what Dr. Ponseti shared with us. 11/19/04 bilateral cf Re: dbb time frame Ok, wait a minute. I'm trying to get caught up here, and before I get all excited...:-) After 2 1/2 months you can go 4 hours out? Ava is at 2 1/2 months 23/7 right now & I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to have her out more often. I've actually been a little " bad " lately...some nights have been stretching to 2 hours instead of just 1. She's up on all fours like she wants to crawl, and she seems to enjoy her " free time " so much. So anyway, is this new information about FAB time? Or is that just for your baby in particular? I thought it was just strictly 23/7 for 3 months, then 16-18 hours until walking, then down to 12-14 hours. But what you wrote is kind of different. So what should we be going by? Thanks! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > Thank you to whom ever suggested calling Dr. Ponseti about how long my son should wear his brace for 23/7. My husband called and we were surprised at what he said. He told us that after 2 1/2 months we could have him out for 4 hours, at three months 6 hours, at four months 6-8 hours, and then after six months in the brace he only needs to wear it 14-16 hours/day. This seems less restrictive than what we had heard from him before, so my husband questioned him, and he stated that they are finding this time frame still works, and it gives the kids more time to stretch out. I plan to be a little more conservative than this, but I thought I would share what he told us! > > > >
