Guest guest
Sindy - Sorry for the delay but I was on vacation and noticed that only 2 people responded. I have been told that the pen is not recommended for GH in young children because it only " dials " in increments, and those increments are not small enough differences for the smaller younger children whose weight is much less (GH is dosed on weight). That being said, Humatrope brand growth hormone is made by Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals. Eli Lilly also has a " Injectease " which is a godsend to our family. Here is what you do. After mixing the vial of GH (you only do this about 10-14 days), each night you take the needle/syringe. Let's say his dose is 20 units. You pull back the plunger drawing up 20 units of air. Then you stick the needle into the vial, and push the plunger and push the air into the vial. Now you tip the vial upside down and pulling back on the plunger, you draw up 20 units of liquid into the needle/syringe. Easy so far!!! (Don't worry, your doctor's office will train you). Now, you take the needle/syringe, and you drop it into this Bic-Pen- like Injectease. Imagine a Big pen plastic tube without the pen tube in it. The needle/syringe drops inside the tube and is HIDDEN from the eye, with only the plunger sticking out of the top. You lock it in. Now your child can't see the needle. You rest the Injectease against the leg or buttocks or stomach (I have also heard that stomach is best because it has the most fat but most kids are afraid of the stomach). You push the Injectease against the skin, creating some pressure (it doesn't hurt). Now count 1-2-3, you push a button on the side of the Injectease, which releases a spring which SO FAST pushes the needle into the skin, at the same time you now push the plunger down, which pushes the GH into the skin (again remember you can't see any of this), counting to 5. Then quickly just life the whole device off the skin. DONE!!! My 8-year-old has given herself her shot the last two nights BY HERSELF!!! She is so proud of herself. The Injectease is awesome! Many of us also give our kids' their shots at night when they are asleep. Don't use alcohol to wipe as it stings more. The kids rarely wake up and it is much easier than adding one more thing to the bedtime routine. I have also found that for those of us who do it when they are asleep, we miss far fewer shots. We have missed only 4 shots in 3 1/2 years.... Salem > > > My name is Sindy . I have a 2 year 10 month old boy. We are starting > growth hormone and I need opinions on what to get.
