Guest guest
, Here's an email from a feeding list I am on regarding the aversion vs. thrust issue. Thought you might be interested given the discussion on the list late last week. Chris Babies give us a variety of readiness cues that let us know when they are ready to move to pureed solid foods. I have an Information Paper on the New Visions Website called " Guidelines for Success: Enhancing Infant Readiness for Supplemental Foods " [ http://new-vis.com/fym/papers/p-feed2.htm ] There is another article on the same website that may be very helpful for you. It is " Refusal of First Foods " [ http://new-vis.com/fym/papers/p-feed4.htm ]. If babies are ready for these foods, they will do better if you help them develop a good sucking rhythm as you put the food in the mouth. Sometimes the thrusting forward of the baby's tongue is a disorganized response that comes because of the way the food is placed in the mouth.
