Guest guest
My daughter just got out of the hospital with Ischemic Colitis. I wonder also if this has anything to do with RSS. If anyone knows email me. Also I will give a full explanation on her last trip in to the hospital later. Thanks,
Guest guest
I have had this discussion with Dr. H. and Max's GI doctors many times. They all point out Max's dysmotility and delayed gastric emptying and reflux and milk allergy. There is also a direct connection between his mind and his gut. When Max is nervous, the first thing to react is his stomach in some way or another. All of Max's doctors think that this is something that should be and is being explored further in RSS kids. There are too many with gut problems for it to be a " fluke. " I don't know what the answer is. For us, it is just managing the day to day difficulties that arise. It does try my patience at times, but I have to be careful because if Max senses that, it adds to his anxiety which continues the problem. One BIG help has been Max's psychologist. She is very much into mind-body stuff, like deep breathing, self-relaxation, etc. She is not a mother-earth type person, either. She just recognizes that connection that Max has and is schooled well-enough in helping him deal with it. The other tremendous help has been eliminating ALL milk products from Max's diet. He has not complained once of the stomach pains he used to have since we have done this. It's not hard to do and I found a great cookbook that enables me to make cakes and cookies that he can enjoy - and we do, too. I also look for products that are marked " parve " because that is the kosher word for no milk ingredients. Costco, fortunately, has a variety of cupcakes and cookies in their bakery that are marked parve. I have a feeling that as our kids get older, there will be more who show symptoms like Max and others. It's finding the right treatment for YOUR child that is the key. Nothing works for everyone. (And we are still looking for that elusive hiccup cure!) Jodi Z.
