Guest guest
Debby - I don't believe there is a test for adrenarche but I could absolutely be wrong. I think the blood test is an LhRh or something like that tests for PUBERTY. So.... if the child has peach fuzz under the arms or in the pubic area, and/or has body odor, they would test for puberty. If the blood test was negative, WHEW -- then it means that the child is in adrenarche and NOT yet in puberty. Dr. Harbison is currently theorizing that if she can postpone adrenarche, then it naturally will also postpone puberty (which would mean NO Lupron shot or Zolodex implant). This would be VERY critical to our children both in terms of pain (Lupron can hurt) and expense (many insurance companies do not cover this). > What is the blood test(s) needed to test for adrenarche? > > > > Deb > > > >
Guest guest
Thanks a million . I'll be asking the endo. on Tuesday and I'll let you guys all know what is happening. I called the endo today to leave a message (ie. if you want new blood/bone age done, fill out forms and I'll come early on Tues.) and guess what??? I got his secretary and she said call back in 15 minutes to talk to him!!! I fell on the floor. Unfortunately, I didn't make it! Tried to rush through bus duty and some kid from a high school showed up to beat the crap out of a grade 7 boy and I ended up in between them to break it up. Lost all my chance to call! UGH. I'll let you know. Debby Debby - adrenarche test > Debby - I don't believe there is a test for adrenarche but I could > absolutely be wrong. Guest guest
Debby, I believe there is a test they do for adrenarche. My son had this done a few years ago. It is called either an adrenal stimulation test or a cortrosyn stimulation test. I believe they take some baseline labs, inject the patient with medication, and take labs again an hour later. Looking at the results of my son's test, they measured cortisol, progesterone, DHEA-S, and testosterone levels. The LHRH stimulation test is for precocious puberty. In this test, they also do baseline labs, inject Lupron, Factrel, or some other form of medication, and draw blood up to 5 more times during the next 2 hours to look at LH & FSH levels. For this one, they will most likely start an IV. It is possible for a child to have both adrenarche & precocious puberty (although rare), so both tests may be necessary to rule out the wrong diagnosis. Adrenarche & precocious puberty also have similar effects on the body. One of the biggest things to be concerned about is the advancement of bone age. Dr. H is using an aromatase inhibitor (used for breast cancer patients) to suppress adrenarche, so many doctors may not have heard of this. This is the case I am dealing with - we saw Dr. Harbison in December, and she said my son should start Aromasin. The local endocrinologist is willing to try this, but he is not familiar with the drug (where to get it, how to dose it, etc.). Dr. H didn't give me an actual prescription, nor all the paperwork I needed to show to 's doctor, and I can't get her office to send records now. I have tried several times. Does anyone else have experience with Aromasin (dosage, where to get it, does insurance typically cover this, etc.)?
