Guest guest
Have you tried the flinstones chewables and take them at bedtime so you will not get the sick feeling? I have heard a couple people do that becuase they were sick from vitamins and it seemed to work. I think since you eat well your baby is well but since we do not absorb well you need to worry about YOU, the baby takes it all first and you are left with whatever is left. Try the flinstones so Mommy can stay healthy too. God Bless, Robin, NorthEastern, NY Age- 41 EDD- July 27th, 2004 IT'S A BOY!!!!!! Guest guest
Chrystal, I took my vitamins for *most* of my pregnancy also. Not just in the 1st trimester, but mostly up until the 6th-7th month. The baby took all of my iron stores and calcium stores from me. It's true the baby takes what it needs from you, but please know that you will need YOUR stores to raise this baby. I am looking at $5,000 if not more in dental work from the calcium/decalcification process, and I am currently rec'ing iron infusions b/c of NO iron stores, pernicious anemia and iron deficient anemia. Even though you may look and feel good now, please know that without a doubt you need those extra vits and iron. I am a textbook argument for taking them religiously!! My hemoglobin pre-pregnancy was almost 15 (14.9) now, after pregnancy, it is 7.3. Which means I have lost just about 1/2 of my total circulating blood volume. I don't need to tell you how crappy I feel, right? If I had been this nutritionally deficient BEFORE pregnancy, there's no doubt in my mind I would have miscarried, died, or he would have been born severely compromised. please, please, please for your sake and that of your baby.... regardless of how sick they make you (try them with food, milk or crackers or something), take those vitamins throughout the entire pregnancy. Just taking them for 1 trimester helps some.... but not enough. (in my case anyway!) oh, I'm not going to send you to the March Of Dimes website but I would have rather heard this from a real person who had the same surgery as I did and then perhaps I would have listened instead of NOT taking my vitamins when my pregnancy got it roughest. Not preaching at you or to you, but since you asked, just my way of *testifying* about the importance of vitamins! Sheila
Guest guest
Chrystal, I struggle with it also. I try my best everyday. Between the heparin injections twice a day, folic acid 2x a day, 4 protein drinks, 72oz of water, 4 iron, 3 doses of calcium, and my regular vitamins. I've decided it's a full time job to take care of myself. The timing part is the hardest part for me. Because I do want to get the most absorbtion. So anyway... your not the only one. I struggle and feel guilty about it everyday. I hate taking the iron because of what it does to my stomach but I try. By the way... I read somewhere that heparin & lovenox can deplete your body of calcium. I'm not sure how accurate that is but thought I would share that with you. Maybe we can do the buddy system and send a quick note to each other and say how we did for the day? :)Sharyn edd 10/10/
Guest guest
I was SO sick my entire pregnancy. I couldn't tolerate prenatals at all. Flinstones worked great for me! Guest guest
I have to confess, both my pregnancies post-op I did not take my vitamins for the same reason, including the prenatal. Both my children were fine and still are. They are 4 and 2 now. Vitamins - fess up. Okay...I'm going out on a limb here. I admit I don't take my vitamins more than 3/4 of the time. I take my lovenox injections and baby aspirin and folic acid...but not my vitamins - they upset my stomach and make me feel yucky. Is anyone else in the same boat? I am 2+years out of wls surgery.........am I hurting the baby? I eat a very healthy diet. Please nobody yell at me or send me march of dimes websites....I did take them all through the first trimester........very faithfully. Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years!
