LOL. A couple of questions from a 1st timer:

First.. congrats!!

1. Are there any good websites to figure out EDD? i tried

parentsplace & ivillage & got 2 different due dates...?

Count 40 weeks from your Last Menstural Period.. if ya are a regular girl.

If not.. just wait until your OB appt.. :)

Don't worry about an " exact " due date... babies come when THEY are ready.. :)

2. When it comes to the prenatals, i chop the big ole pill(Walgreens

store brand) in 4 pieces.

My neighborhood supplement store sells capsules. Which is preferable?

I take 2 Flinstones chewables 2 to 3x a day... I think I absorb more that

way. :)

Thanks for being patient, May 3rd is my 1st appt.

& lastly, what I'm most afraid of is childbirth---that it will be an

undignified experience---enemas, a billion people touching you... Not

to mention the PAIN, & loss of control.

Rarely do they give enemas anymore...

If you ate a good meal in the last 12 hours... it IS possible and probable to

poop on the table.. but it gets whisked away.. you won't even know you did

it.. UNLESS you have a partner who thinks it is funny and has to tell you about

it!

Pain? If you go natural , unmedicated birth.. try the Bradly meathod and use

midwives and a doula. They can be a GREAT help with naturally reducing your

pain.

Of course .. there is the epidural.. but educate yourself on pain meds and

pain management. Epidurals do not allow the mom to walk around.. and use

gravity to get that baby out.. and you are laboring on your back. Epidural

labors

have a higher incidence of C Section for failure to progress..

For me.. I am a repeat C Section :)

My pain will be controlled with a spinal block.. some morphine and LOTS of

Percocets afterwords. :)

Don't worry about your dignity... trust me when I say you won't care :)

After my C Section.. I was resting so comfy.. and some nurse just comes by...

pulls back my blankets and proceeds to clean me and change my pad...

I was to tired to be mortified at that point.. LOL

For now.. just concentrate on healthy foods... lots of water... and some

exercise.. and of couse.. VITS!

You make me laugh. I remember, before I ever got pregnant, crying at the

thought of child birth!! It scared me so much. I ended up having 3 C-sections

which I would recommend for anyone! I never had labor or any of those things,

except for billions of people touching you. I remember I was 16 when my cousin

had her first baby. She told me that there were so many people coming in her

room and " putting their hands up me " and she said " I didn't even know who

belonged there and who didn't! " It was funny. The thing is, someday it's over

with. i have fibromyalgia and it's pain, bad pain, on percocet every day (6 of

them) and I know that it will NEVER go away. At least with labor, you know it

will be done and you have a true treasure afterwards!!

Thanks ! 1st, your Noah is a cutey tootie:-)

I'm obsessing about the EDD since it falls in mid December, same

time as final exams(& last semester before earning my degree).

Too funny about the delivery room poop;my jokester hubby will never

let me forget that one. I can just hear the 'loaf pitching'

comments.

Thanks for the wisdom!

& btw, I'm just over 2 years post-op, RNY.

Brideandgroom2001,

To figure your due date..... Take the FIRST day of your LAST period.

Minus 3 months and add 7 days. That is your due date.

When you eventually get to the labor part of pregnancy, you will have

had a number of exams and ultrasounds and you will be much less

modest than you are now. When labor sets in really intense, you won't

care who is looking at what- lol. As for you being touched by a

million people, you can request that you have the same nurse if

possible each day and each night, but trust me, at this point in

pregnancy/labor and delivery, you pretty much won't care who is

touching you too much.

If you are opting for an epidural, *most* of the pain can be

*usually* eliminated and you will labor rather effortlessly until it

is time to push. Pushing is hard work, usually moreso for a 1st time

mom so keep in mind trying to push from your bottom (like you are

having a bowel movement).

If you *plan* your labor with keeping an open mind to other

possibilites and know that NOTHING is set in stone, your childbirth

experience doesn't have to be " out of control " for you. Our hospital

doesn't give enemas. Often. if some stool comes out, but the docs

squirt liquid soap on it and wipe it away. No problem.

I don't know if you have explored all of the possibilites that await

you, but I would suggest you and your *groom* going to a Prenatal

class. That is a good way to understand more about what is going to

happen to you. Dont get in the mindset that all births end up

vaginal, cause some do end up in c-sections. (I've had two and

wouldn't even want a vaginal now!). There are doulas you can hire to

make you as comfortable as possible during the labor/delivery phase.

I would suggest delivering in a hospital with a NICU *just in case*

anything were to go wrong, the baby wouldn't lose valuable time being

transported to the NICU.

Anyway... there is a multitude of choices, options, care providers,

experiences etc etc etc that you can research now. Friends, family,

message boards such as this one etc etc are excellent sources of

information.

Two of the best books that I recommend are " What To Expect When You

Are Expecting " and " Your Pregnancy Week by Week. "

These are MY very own experiences and opinions and you will see that

just about everyone has them to share!!

Happy pregnancy!

:)
