For a primip (someone pregnant with their first baby), it's pretty normal for the baby to " drop " or engage 2-4 weeks before labor. For a multip (someone pregnant with their 2+ baby), it's actually normal for the baby to engage during labor or immediately preceeding labor. When baby is smaller (like 32-35 weeks), baby can " engage " and " disengage " many times...depending on when you check. It's when the head is large enough and presenting in such a way that it drops into the pelvis and becomes what we call " not ballotable " (ie. it doesn't move) that you can be relatively sure that it's engaged and will not move back up. I just find it so fascinating how different each and every one of us are. =) Soderblom CCCE CD(DONA) CLD Student Midwife - Mesa, AZ CAPPA Board of Directors Doula/CBE/Pregnancy/Birth Photography Owner: Birth Story Diaries - real births, real photos http://www.birthdiaries.com Owner: SouthwestDoulas.com

My first dropped during labor, my second dropped shortly before labor, so it will be interesting to see when the first twin drops... I like the information on engaging... got to know.
