Guest guest
Hi all... Im about 1.5 yr post-op (have lost 164# and 40 more to lose) and TTC#3. I had 2 sucessfull pregnancies prior to my WLS. Youngest is 7 yrs old. Back in Oct, I stopped the BCP and was very surprised to see that I couldnt get pregnant right away like my other 2. In April doc put me on 50 mg of Clomid...it didnt work... and he upp'ed the clomid to 100mg in May. That didnt work... and I took 150mg this month and now the waiting game begins. I have 2 questions....first.. is it possible that the WLS could have caused infertilty? And with the WLS, can my body obsorb the Clomid? Im going in for progesterone test on the 24th. So we'll see what's my level is. Last one was 4.5.

" --------------------------------------- I'm sorry if I didn't catch your age, but in my opinion.... to answer your question, no, the WLS wouldn't.shouldn't have caused infertility. I would " say " that it is because of age (although I don't know how old you are). Many women develop secondary infertility and for many, the cause/reason is never discovered. I had no trouble conceiving #1 and with #2 I had to take fertility drugs and be artifically inseminated to get pregnant. And no, many women get pg on clomid after WLS, so I answer this question no as well. Best wishes! Sheila (take a look at my profile picture to see what Clomid can do for a post WLS " old " woman of 37! lol)
Guest guest
> I'm sorry if I didn't catch your age, Hi Sheila.... I'm 36 (37 in Dec). How long have you been TTC before you got preg? I wanted two more kids....especially one to be born in 2006 because both of my kids were born in 1986 and 1996.
Guest guest
Hi , Best of luck to you TTC and congratulations on the amazing weight loss! My situation was totally opposite to yours... A few yrs ago, preop, I was on clomid 150mg x 10 days (not just the fun, exciting 5 days they usually rx)...Absolutely NOTHING happened. I had PCOS badly. For me, two weeks after my WLS, I got the first period I had had naturally in two yrs and continued to have them every month til we got preggo 9 mos post op...I am now 19 weeks along. I wondered how long ago your surgery was, etc? And wanted to wish you luck with the prog level on the 24th... Thanks for posting and I look forward to your updates! Hugs, VBG May 3/03 -104lb til Feb/04 EDC Nov 10 > Hi all... Im about 1.5 yr post-op (have lost 164# and 40 more to > lose) and TTC#3. Guest guest
, First time around, it was an " oopsie " pregnancy, we weren't even trying @ age 28. At age 35 & 36, my new hubby and I started trying the month we got married (bio clock was ticking like a time bomb-lol). We tried in May, June, July and August until we started using clomid. We used clomid Sept, Oct, Nov and December without any luck, then took January off. I made an appointment with a fertility specialist on Feb 1st, 2002, did the clomid, trigger Hcg injection and insemination w/ hubby as donor-lol on Feb 15th and found out we were pregnant on February 27th! Once we saw the fertility specialist, it was a snap, although he claims it was " luck " not his expertise b/c most take more than one round of IUI. (We still love him for helping us get pregnant, so we named the baby after him). We tried IUI again last July and August without any luck, then he ordered a ton of lab work only to discover that I was severely anemic (hemoglobin 8.4 that dropped to 6.9) and he said that was a MAJOR factor in infertility b/c the ovaries shut down to shunt blood to the major vital organs and ovaries you can live without). So, I am now in the process of getting " healthy " again. I *doubt* we will try for any more since I will be 38 in 8 days and I honestly can't imagine another one now. lol My oldest son was born in 1994 and the baby boy in 2002. According to my RE/FE, every year over 30 shows a drastic decline in the ability to get and maintain a pregnancy once you do get pregnant. You still have time to get pg in 2005 though to make your 2006 deadline! lol Best wishes! Sheila
Guest guest
, At what point in your cycle was your progesterone test done? We had all of those tests done but found that I had a cervical problem so no amount of clomid in the world was going to help if the little swimmies couldn't get through my cervix to get to the follicles to fertilize them! (I have 30-50 tiny endocervical polyps blocking my cervical opening. He said the ones that managed to get through probably thought the polyps were the " egg " they were looking for and tried penetrating them. By the time the swimmies realized they weren't getting anywhere, they died. lol So we bypassed the problem with IUI directly into my uterus. Then those lil fellers had a fighting chance! Best wishes again!! One thing my RE said (and it probably differs from one RE to another) is that if a woman has low progesterone, he usually starts them on progesterone BEFORE they get pregnant so it's more likely to " take " . He said in his opinion, starting a woman on progesterone AFTER a positive pregnancy test in many cases was too late. (I didn't have this issue, but I have a friend who kept miscarrying b/c the Docs didn't put her on progesterone BEFORE her pos pg test and the month that he had her start progesterone, then get pg, she got pg and carried it to term. She named him !
