Guest guest
Yes, thanks. I wonder if I have a non-mito metabolic issue as well, I do have trouble tolerating carbohydrates. Sudden weakness is common to my SLEs, sometimes double and/or blurry vision. Often it is only one side, sometimes it is severe on one side but mild on the other (usually left severe/right mild). Sometimes I lose speech, but more often I get confused where I am and what I'm doing and can't tie my shoes. I guess the thing is mine tend to resolve within an hour, with the worst symptoms for 5 to 20 minutes, but once in a while the effects last up to a day. On the other hand, if I have a (what I think of as) high ammonia episode, the onset is slow, it takes a lot of effort to notice the symptoms occurring (symptoms are dementia, confusion, loss of appetite, emotional lability). It's a slow ramp for those type symptoms, which resolve within 2 hours of taking lactulose (which seems odd, I must have a " leaky gut " as it is supposed to take 12 to 24 hours to work, but " the results " occur usuall with me in 2 to 4 hours). The nice thing about the lactulose is that it " strips " toxins from the body by putting more water in the stool, so even if ammonia isn't my underlying cause (unfortunately it seems to be ammonia), the lactulose is possibly removing something else bad. Take care, RH > > If anyone is interested, here are a couple of links relating to " cause " of > > stroke-like events.
Guest guest
thanks for the links. It is interesting. When anyone, for instance the school asks what MELAS stands for I never know if the S stands for stroke like events or seizure like events--have seen a few pieces of literature with both. But, I guess I really never cared what the difference between a strokelike event and seizure like event were. I myself only have " evidence " of seizures diagnosed by a MRI Spectropsosy. I can tell you a few times in my life when I have fainted or blacked out. Probably others I did not know about. My mother had blackout seizures and my sister had the kind where you shake and 1 stroke where she had speech problems and lost use of leg.
