One more thing. Most of you do not know this, but I had the fortune

to actually speak to Dr. Silver himself about 14 years ago. We were

in regular contact for a couple of years until he passed away. He

lived in Denver, CO and was an anonymous donor to the organization

that my husband and I started for RSS when Max was an infant. He

did not refer to RSS kids as dwarves. He, too, agreed that the term

was out of date and not necessary for our kids.

Just thought you'd like to hear from the source.

Jodi,

I think it is wonderful that you actually spoke to Dr. Silver.

As for the whole midget/dwarf thing, we simply say that has a

growth disorder. I don't think most anything else really makes sense

when you are speaking about a child who probably will be 5 ft or

taller at the end of the day. Also, I grew up very short and am

under 5 ft tall myself. I HATED when people would call me a midget

or a dwarf.

With all the Lord of the Rings movies, I told my son to tell others he is a

hobbit but he liked the " wee people " the idea the best.
