Guest guest
I have been away from this board for awhile and just sat down to read through some old posts. I see that once again a discussion about doctors suspecting Trisomy 18 with a lot of RSS kids, so I just have to add my really bizarre experience with this. I had a little boy three years ago who unfortunately did have Trisomy 18, and died shortly after birth. Like many of you, I continued the pregnancy despite the grim prognosis. Not wanting to take the chance of losing another child (he was my second loss) my husband and I decided to adopt two sisters from Belarus. Having spent most of thier lives in an orphanage, they were small and frail when we brought them home. Maggie, the elder of the sisters however, did not grow as much as she should have. To make a long story short, she has RSS. I am sure that if I had known about the common confusion of RSS and T18 I would have prayed for RSS while pregnant with my son . I guess those unspoken prayers were answered anyway, it was just a different child. Or perhaps, put Maggie's diagnosis into perspective for me. Cool, isn't it?
