Guest guest
I became anemic before I got pregnant, but after I found out I was pregnant I was put on prescription Iron pills twice a day - it's a brand that helps us absorb it better. I was also on infusions every month or 6 weeks during my pregnancy to keep my iron levels up - it worked wonderfully on top of the fact that my body just seemed to love being pregnant. My iron levels stayed absolutely perfect during the whole pregnancy and when I say my Hematologist last month my iron levels dropped a bit but I haven't had an infusion since December, right after I gave birth. So, actually being pregnant seems to have helped my body with the iron absorption. I am still considered anemic even though my levels are above normal, but I have a great group of doctors that watch me like a hawk. Since I am considering pregnancy #2 now(I'm 37 and baby #1 was born 12/1 after 15 years of trying) my doctors are all supportive as long as I keep my blood levels up and get them checked on a regular basis. The hospital made sure to have blood ready for me when I gave birth in case anything happened as well... Good luck - with the right medical team everything will work out for the best and you'll come through this with flying colors! Rene Post op 11/30/00 - lost 192lbs! Baby #1 12/1/2003 Baby #2 - hopefully early to mid 2005!
