Guest guest
Carol, Welcome to the group. I'm glad that you found us... Yes RP can be scarey but don't believe everything that you read... Most is old and out of date... RP is controlable when you find the right combination of drugs for you. We are all different and we all take different drugs... I sure hope your dr got back to you... You shouldn't just stop taking pred at 40mg without tapering off... at least that is what I think... Usually they taper you off slowly and if you have been on it a long time ( like I have) you have to taper very slowly at 10mg. I'm going down 1mg a month. Slow but worth it. If you have any pain or redness and swelling I would think that your flare isn't gone.. I would ask for them to do something. With each flare some damage can be done. I'm glad that you are seeing a rheumy soon... Maybe he can get you on the right medications to make you feel 100% better. Please don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you want... That is why we are here.. And don't be scared... things will get better. hugs

Guest guest
Hi Carol, I am glad you found this site. The members will provide you with a wealth of information. The way they prescribed your Prednisone sounds typical of a person taking it for a respiratory condition or some other inflammatory process, not RP. To go from 40mg of Prednisone for 10 days down to nothing is not good. With the RP you need to be tapered down in slow increments or the RP tends to Flare again-- with a vengence. I hope you heard back from your Dr. and they put you back on the Prednisone. Let us know how you are doing. Guest guest
Dear Carol, I'm in Wisconsin and my doctor does the same thing with the prednisone. We both need new doctors. Its a catch 22 situation because so many doctors don't know about RP and you go through them alot until you find the right one. Good luck to you.....Sue M

Guest guest
A friend of mine recommended I check out this group. I am 4 months post-op gastric bypass and I learned today that I'm pregnant. I've lost 55lbs so far. My biggest concern is having a healthy baby. My second concern is - did I ruin my chance of losing all my weight? My BMI 35.2, so I'm not longer " morbidly obese, " but I still intend to reach my goal weight, though I realize it may take longer than I expected. Can I? And will my child be healthy? And will I continue to loose weight during the pregnancy? I feel so torn because I'm really excited (this is our first child), but I intended to wait another 18 months. I guess life can throw some curve balls! Any advice and information would be be very welcome! Thanks - Alison
Guest guest
Welcome Alison!! I too am 4 months Post Op.. (51 lbs so far) and 8 weeks prego. I was a bit shocked.. but pleasantly surprised. I am high risk anyhow... the RNY just adds some more excitement for me. I have found that I am having a HARD time getting in the protein.. I am suffering from SEVERE MS all day long... I can't stand the smell of meat and won't eat it... I am tired of cheese... tired of crackers.. So now I am on to Granola...homemade. My OB had Gastric Bypass last May and she has had many Gastric Bypass OB patients as well. As long as I get my vitimins ... stay hydrated ... and eat SOMETHING I should be fine. I have continued to lose slowly... and I don't mind to much at all... Heck.. as long as I don't gain 50 - 60 lbs like last time! I would suggest telling your OB up front that you are a RNY patient... tell your surgeon... and make sure your OB knows UPFRONT that NO Glucose TEST! Have them write it in your chart.. it will save you tons of headaches down the road! - Mommy to: Noah - 10/14/02 - 31 weeker - 3lbs 11 oz edd November 18th m/c 7/04 Open RNY 12/3/03.... -51 lbs gone and counting
Guest guest
Alison the majority of people dont' reach their goal weight. EVER. This surgery is not designed to do that. Most people lose 80% of their excess weight and keep it off. So if you thought this surgery would make you skinny, you may be disappointed. It can happen but doesn't to the majority. As for having a healthy baby, you need to switch your focus from losing weight to having a healthy baby. You need to get your vitamins (EVERY DAY), eat healthy (try eating some more carbs -- whole grain and such, veggies and fruits) and make sure you stay hydrated. Walk daily for exercise. You can have a healthy baby. Make that your focus okay? mailto: dferguson@... BTC, Columbus, 10/7/
