Dolores,

I also have swelling of my feet that comes and goes in about 2 month cycles.

Does not respond to elevation. When it started last year I thought it might be

due to changing insulin types do to using the pump. Found out it wasn't.

Anyway, I have wide tennis shoes I wear to work and by 10 am my feet are swollen

and sore. My lower leg also swells.

Lately I have been wearing my sandals. I have two pair that are pretty much

closed sandal with lots of straps across them and one for my ankle as my feet

turn inward. I also wear socks with them rather than nothing or pantyhose or

something. I try to wear something that absorbs sweat.

Anyway, when I wear the sandals my feet & legs do swell some but for some reason

it seems not as bad.

I'm glad the pillows helped. My swelling (when I have it) doesn't

respond to elevation of my feet. Mine is due to dysautonomia.

elevate the head did make a difference as I did sleep pretty good last night but

I stayed up late as I thought that might help not to wake up. My feet were

almost normal this am but I can feeling them starting to swell now just fro

being up on them. I didn't think I could set thru Church and Sunday School both

without my feet swellng out of my shoes so just stayed home. I don't like to

do that but there comes a time, and I think the Lord will understand. Thanks

I have a couple of pair of sandles that I recently got that has velcro straps so

I can let them out when I need to. I just have such a more difficult time

walking (even with my can) when my feet are so swollen, plus they look so

horrible all purplish and puffy? Thanks, Dolores

To Laurie:

I apolgize for asking but I need to check on that name also so I'll be ready

for this new cardiologist this week. I know this sounds dumb but could you

explain what dysautonia is? I don't find it in my quick reference guide I have.

I hate to ask someone what somthing means, I usually just print off the page and

try to go to some kind of reference guide that UMDF sent to me? I usually can

come up with an answer on my own but I was wondering if I could get you to

explain Sorry and thanks, Dolores

Dolores,

I need to work since my husbands business does not make much and we have a loan

out against it. We have calculated how much a " job " would bring in and between

the gas money and taxes we are just better off doing what we are doing. This

way he can be home with my son.

Anyway, cannot help you exactly with the dysautonia but the reason I wear some

sort of socks is two fold--to stop the sweating onto the sandals and because I

have very ugly feet.

I guess I spelled dysautonomia wrong - sorry!

My problems related to this come and go. I have several symptoms for

periods of time and then they are gone for a period of time.

I too have suffered with leg and feet swelling. My PCP and I

discovered that when I am taking a Calcium Channel Blocker for my

High BP, I tend to have more episodes that when I am taking other

types of BP meds. I can't take Beta Blockers because they cause

breathing problems, so I am currently taking Micardis. I am not sure

exactly what type of med it is, but so far so good!

Just thought I might mention this in case you may also be on BP meds.

Thanks for the info. I am on BP meds, but they don't seem to dictate

the swelling. As long as I get enough rest and drink enough, I rearely

have swelling.

You can tell i was still feeling rough as I got an " F " in spelling. A person

would need to speak a different language to figure out what I was talking about.

From what I have been told a week ago last night I apparently had a mild stroke,

then saturday I lost over two hours, two slices of boiled ham, four slices of

bread and a pound of ground chuck. My neurologist gave it some kind of a name a

mile-long and unable to repeat, he said the simple explanation is that I had a

silent stroke. For some reason my dilantin level was low so I'm back on 300 mg

daily instead of 200 one day and 300 the next. My blood pressure had been

spiking for some reason, once when I went in for my B-12 shot my BP was 192/92

and the treatment insisted I be seen by my PCP. I knew from the Echo that I had

two heart valves that were leaking so when they did a cardiac cathe the

discovered that the valve they had ballooned in the late 1980's was now

un-ballooned so they re-ballooned it and put in a stent,

they also discovered that a main artery of some kind/name that feeds into my

right leg had a partial blockage so they put a stent in it also. They did

decided for sure that I had a mild heart attack by comparison of the EKG done

March 31st prior to my surgery then and the EKG they did in the ER Sunday.

Another problem was that my lungs were so full due to my COPD that they were

surprised I hadn't gone into congestive heart failure. They took me off the

Albuteral inhaler only for emergencies and I am to carry it in my purse just in

case. I was using my Spirvia inhaler once capsule daily and my PCP had uped my

Albuterol inhaler to two puffs four times a day and the pharmacist threw a fit

as he said that was too many times daily. They started me on breathing

treatments every four hours around the clock. A lady at Stormont (as it turned

out I had worked with her at EDS before they lost the contract to Blue Cross)

really worked to find a DME dealer in this area that would work with

Gentiva (where Cigna goes thru for all their DME supplies to get me a

Nebulizer. She finally found one in Lawrence, KS and the man delivered it to me

at the hospital. That was teamwork and it is eally making a differnce. That's

about it until I get

my appt at KC at the MDA clinic as Dr. Welch said he was sending in a referral

as he thought he had more than enough info for them now. He said he would also

help arrange for transportaton and someone to stay with me. I just kept

printing off all the ideas from all of you by e-mail and had my son bring them

to me and he got to work on it. Thank the Lord I will know something (I hope).

I know not to get my hopes up as I may continue as we think?, until they have to

do an autopsy when I'm gone as I am 69 (ha), Seriously, I am keeping an open

mind and perhaps they will find a definitive answer (one way or the other). I

think it's time for me to say goodnight and just keep me in your prayers.

Thanks, Dolores

I've lost groceries before, LOL! It's embarrassing to have your 8-

year-old son ask you why there are groceries sitting out (seems I

kept stepping over them, since I didn't remember going to the store).

Hope you are well on the mend...

I guess it's just something I am going to have to learn to live with, I just

wish my 18 year old cat could really talk, she meows loudly in my ears when she

wants something. I have been battleing a bought of pneumonia in my left lung

and high temps, yesterday the only way I could get anywhere was by using my

computer chair but I'm moving today and see doctor tomorrow for a recheck on the

pneumonia. My only ?? is did you buy what you needed at the store? Thanks,

Yes, but I sure had to cook the ground beef a long time to wish away

the germs! What happens is that I try so hard to remember my grocery

list (I usually forget to take a written one), I get distracted from

everything else, and kind of am in a fog afterwards.

I have managed so far not to forget when I'm supposed to be watching

my kids, but I switch the names around sometimes, so that elicits

laughs from people who don't know I'm ill (my husband has been very

nice not to laugh at all my incidents he witnesses).

I probably need a PDA, but would have to chain it to my belt loop so

I wouldn't lose it. They have these two part child safety things

that you can use on important items as well, it will beep when the

first part (on your kid or other important item) gets more than a

certain distance from the second part (on you). If I could attach

one to the PDA, and remember to take the other part with me, I'd be

set!

Take care,

I saw my PCP today and she said my lungs are clearing up and that I just about

hvae the pneumonia under control. How I managed to get pneumonia, I'll never

know? There is this six year old Native American boy named Thunder that is in

foster care and he believes in his heart of hearts that I am his Grandmother.

His Dad had worked with my son and his Dad had divorced his Mother due to

he drug habit and the two of them were living with my son when Thunder's Dad

made a couple of slips and died of Alcohol Poisoining. At any rate his

-Father had brought him over to see me for a short while so he could see

that " Grandma " was OK and his -Father said that I could have picked up the

pneumonia in the hospital?? Take care and God Bless, Dolores
