Guest guest
Hi. I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my fourth son...but he's first after gastric bypass surgery. I've gone round and round with my OB's (it's a practice of about three or four OB's) and again TODAY I've been asked WHY I refuse to take the Glucose test. I explain that 1) it will make me feel VERY ill and 2) the results may be inaccurate for me. Today the OB said he's had two other Gastric Bypass patients who TOOK the test and they had NO problems and their results were FINE. I am NOT taking the test...but would like some information to hand over to this practice so they can understand WHY. And for future patients who go to their clinic (I love the office otherwise) so they won't have to keep going through what I am. I'm looking for info such as how much glucose is in the glucose drink and what it is compaired to. Such as....what would I have to eat (a sweet type product) and how much of it that would compair to how much glucose is in the tolerance drink. This OB told me the close is no more than it would be should i drink a glass of regular soda (pop). I find that VERY hard to believe!!!!!!!! Also...is there printed info somewhere...or on the net that i can print out for them that states 1) what can happen if I drink this stuff and 2) how the results would be inaccurate for them. I can't find ANYTHING that is specific enough and I've tried doing internet searches. I can find stuff about dumping but thats it. Also, since he states that he's had two other patients that have had this test and done just fine....can anyone here who HAS taken the test...tell me what happened to them with it? He wants me to do the 1 hour fasting. But still means drinking the Glucola stuff. I've tried over and over to say that I will do the test by fasting and taking blood WITHOUT doing the Glucola...but in the end they keep trying to push me..and write up the requisition for taking the Glucola test. I'm very frustrated and just want to give them info when I walk in NEXT time. Thanks so much everyone...I don't know where else to turn.
