Guest guest
Is it common for kids to have bad breath when they are sick? This happened with my son over the weekend. He had a cold, and then on Sunday night he vomited a couple of times before he went to bed and developed a fever overnight. I gave him Telynol and he was fine the next day, but I noticed that he had bad breath all day, even after lunch and dinner. I noticed a white patch on his tongue which is probably the culprit (from drinking pediasure, I guess). Should I brush his tongue? He has very sensitive gag reflux so I am afraid of triggering vomiting. But again just brushing his teeth didn't do the trick. By the way, I am still using a safe-to-swallow type of toothpaste for him (for babies). My son is 3.5 years old now. I am thinking of switching him to a regular kid toothpaste. How should I train him not to swallow? Thanks so much! Bo (, SGA/IUGR, 3.5 years old, 30lbs, 37 " )
Guest guest
Did you check his ketones while he was sick? The bad breath you were smelling may have been what I call nail polish remover breath, but others call a very sweet, fruity breath. If that was not the smell, then he may have had bad breath just from having a stomach infection. That sometimes happens to Max. I guess if he is sick enough to be throwing up, then his breath would be affected, too. Jodi Z.
