Guest guest
Leah, Boy can I ever sympathize with you. I am doing the two chewable children's vitamins and 2 iron pills also. Right now I'm taking NuIron 150 twice a day (well twice a day when I remember). I found out I was borderline anemic sometime around where you are now (23-24 weeks). I was 10.1 or something like that. At 33 weeks I was down to 9.5 and by 35 weeks I am now down to 8.6. The third trimester your iron supply dwindles and dwindles naturally. I can tell you it has me exhausted. I'm considering buying the iron pills from Bariatric Advantage and trying them because apparently my absorption is terrible of the capsules. Bariatric Advantage iron is formulated for bypass patients (so they say) and I'm hoping if I switch I will absorb that better. Perhaps you could try those as well while you still have some time left in your pregnancy to catch back up. I think their website is _www.BariatricAdvantage.com_ (http://www.BariatricAdvantage.com) . By the way, I don't know if anyone has ever told you before, but we should take our iron completely separate from anything else, except I believe it is Vitamin C and magnesium that help absorption (if you choose to take those vitamins). Calcium or dairy products block the absorption of iron, so basically the iron in your multivitamin can be considered not absorbed, because there is calcium in the multi as well. I try to take my iron on a completely empty stomach in hopes it will absorb better. Hope you have much better luck than I have had. I've just not been as on top of it as I should have been and am paying the price for it now energy-wise. Guest guest
Hi, I am wondering if anyone has had any problems with anemia and iron absorption. I am 24 weeks pregnant, and have been extremely tired the whole time. I finally went to my regular doc who found out that I am slightly anemic. I went on iron pills (2 a day) and Flinstone (also 2) about two and half weeks ago. I have been on Flinstone's for longer, but was not taking any vitamens for about 2 months during the first trimester because they made me way too sick. I did try to talke prenatels again a week ago and they made me sick again, but my doc says the Flinstone's are ok. So enough rambling, my question is has anyone had problems absorbing (sp?) iron, and if so what did you do to help. I can't be this tired much longer. I sleep about 10 hours at night, and 3-5 during the day. Then I have no energy to do anything else, other than sit on the couch. I have even tried to make myself exercise and that doesn't help either. Thanks for any help you can give me. I would like to give my doc some suggestions if anyone has them. Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to thank everyone for repyling about iron absorption. I will talk to my doc about what everyone said. I am so sick of being tired. He does do his research, but I wanted to offer some suggestions also. I am on my way right now for a blood draw, and then I will find out what to do. Thanks again. Guest guest
I continue to be on Chromagen Forte since giving birth - my doctor's biggest concern with the infusions was that it would cause some reaction with the baby...but all went well and my body and the baby accepted it well. My doctor wants me on the Chromagen Forte as it has a much better absorbtion for those of us that have had RNY and it gives us a better iron level. Good luck to all!!! Guest guest
I would try to get your doctor to go with the Chromagen Forte pills before the shots - evidently the shots are hard on the veins and we don't absorb it as well.... I swear by the pills that are by prescription only as they have made me feel 100% better even after giving birth! Good luck!!
