Guest guest
I have started a vegan rawfood diet to try to regain some of my former health. Does anyone on the list have firsthand experience with this type of diet? Thanks! Di
Guest guest
Hi , I don't have a LOT of experience in the vegan diets, but I have dabbled here and there with it. I haven't gone the entire raw food way, but I do eat a lot of vegan meals. The one thing with vegan diets is, that you will get no vitamin B-12, as that comes strictly from animal products. And vitamin B-12 is a needed source of energy. So, you may want to check into an alternative form of B-12. I don't know if there is any synthetic form that is not from animal products or not, you'd want to check on this. I do eat meat still, and take vitamin B-12 supplements, so I don't worry about not getting enough of it for myself. I know that people in the Seventh Day Adventist church say that you don't need animal products, that you do get all you need from veggies and fruit (I only say this as my niece married into a SDA church family, and have talked with some of them). But I am not entirely convinced on not eating meat products at all lol. I guess my only problem with the vegan diet so far, is not getting the B-12, otherwise, I'd say it is a very healthy diet for anyone to follow. Take care, Cin Vegan Rawfood diet I have started a vegan rawfood diet to try to regain some of my former health. Does anyone on the list have firsthand experience with this type of diet? Thanks! Guest guest
Cin, Thanks. I do supplement with both B12 ans MethylB12. I never really considered that they might not be " vegan " . Doesn'yt really matter to me. I was also wondering if the creatine I take is " non-vegan. " I am still planning to take it even if it's not. Guest guest
Yes and No. I was a vegetarian--not a vegan or rawfoods person--for 15 years. Personally, I can't do too much raw food because it causes digestive pain and diarrhea (unless you count nuts which I do fine with). As for the vegetarianism, although I don't even like animal products much, I felt I needed more variety in my diet. I have never been able to tell for sure which foods I was digesting and absorbing better and which ones I wasn't digesting well. So more variety has seemed a safer bet. My digestive pain and energy level has been better with more options. But as with so many of these things, it's very individual. You might need to experiment--slowly and carefully--and see what happens. Best, Shayna > > I have started a vegan rawfood diet to try to regain some of my former > health. Guest guest
Shayna , I was also lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 10 years (except for one year after I developed fibro....you know everyone blamed fibro on my diet). I've dabbled in veganism and intended to be full vegan by May. I jumped way ahead of the game though. I am already following a vegan diet and trying to go 100% raw. At this point I'm about 50-75%. The first few days on the diet I was very nauseated. I think it was the sprouts. I have happily adjusted now though. I haven't noticed any major improvement yet, but at least the nausea is gone. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress or lack thereof. Di > > Yes and No. I was a vegetarian--not a vegan or rawfoods person--for 15 > years. ..............
