Guest guest
Yes, I almost forgot about the diabetes problems. Shortly after I was done testing for baseline with the melas I was talking to my gp. At the time I was having alot of problems with tingling in my feet, top of my foot was numb (that is the initial reason I had the testing done--found nerves are shot), also my hands tingling. But I also had a complaint about discharges and general overall fatique and no desire. My gp (a woman) who had studied alot of metabolic stuff in her residency and was first learning more about MELAS, said that the problems could be caused by the melas or diabetes. It would be hard to know. She said out of control blood sugar can cause alot of strange problems. About a month after that we found an oral med that worked and lowered my sugar to 140 most of the time. Some of the symptoms went away. Today I seldom have problems and my sugar has been 115-125 most of the time with sometimes 60, although I am on the insulin pump now. However a month ago I had a strange discharge that I thought was an infection. Yeast infections are very common with diabetics. anyway, nothing could be found on the lab report. It was itchy so that is why I went in--was driving me crazy. After about a week it went away. I often have an abnormal vaginal discharge when I am sick with a runny nose--I call it my body wierd. The gp does not know why this is but never have mentioned it to any other doc. I'm not sure about the blood sugar meds but diabetes can cause problems too.
